Yesterday just got one original (plastic wrapped) 2012 penny roll, which is NON-magnetic.

All my other original 2012 penny rolls are magnetic.

The non-magnetic rolls will be more common, I think their production started late February or early March.

The Winnipeg dealer is now sold out of Magnetic rolls.

I picked up 5 rolls today. I went to the store and received a 2012 penny in my change. I asked the customer service desk if I could buy some rolls (as a collector) and she happily gave me 5 rolls at face value.
To those looking for rolls, this might be the way to go, unless you are looking at purchasing LARGE quantities.

This is a pretty interesting thread. How can you check to see how many 2012 cents were minted already? I looked for it on the RCM web site, but I couldn't find any info to see what the production amount is for them.

It would be great to get some at face value. I like to collect Canadian coins and I hope to get some.

Wow !! Everyone has caught the Cabbage Patch Doll/Beanie Baby/ Tickle-Me Elmo bug. There are going to be thousands of rolls of BU cents being hoarded, millions of coins. Who in their right mind is going to pay tons of money for more, once they have ONE? How many collectors do all those hoarders think there are that they can sell them to

IT'S SHEER LUNACY, I TELL YOU, LUNACY

Believe me, in 100 years they will be worth something however none of us will ever see it.

I have a theory regarding 2012 rolls, they seem to keep showing up in my change at Tim Hortons (Montreal area). Next time I will ask the manager if they have rolls :P

To RealMetal; Let's see, almost no one kept 1859 cents when they first came out, so BU examples are very rare and worth a lot. The ordinary ones, because of the enormous quantity minted (9 1/2 million, the most of any cent up until 1916), can be had for several dollars.

The 2012 cents are being hoarded in enormous quantities in BU condition and even in a 100 years, they will be the most common cent in pristine condition, which means they will be near the bottom of the price scale. The mintage could run into a 100 million or more.

Any year before 2012 will have a better chance of being more valuable since fewer will have be hoarded. I bet spending $25 for any common silver dollar and passing that along will be worth much more than a box of super-common BU 2012 cents.

Yes, and I bet you will be right, but it might take over a year for that to happen. It is quite historical, since when was the last time a denomination was stopped being minted? Everyone wants a memento, including me.

The question is, will anyone be willing to sell them, for a reasonable price, in the near future? This is the last year of their issue, so I doubt they will drop in price any time soon. There will not be another year of cents, so most people might not want to sell them any time soon, unless it is for a large premium.

They stopped minting the cent on May 4th (Friday):

It'll be interesting to hear what the final mintages for those cents are. Anyone hear anything yet?
