Once nancyc sees this in hand she will be able to define the error/damage in a heart beat Thanks trout, 1954 Commem coin is now here, and in my opinion, there was something fairly hard on the die, some of the edges of the strike through are very well defined and the left of the area is also quite deep. I can't improve on trout's pictures on previous page, he produced excellent images of the error.

I am not having too much luck with my decimal coin noodling at the moment, so I thought I would noodle through the pre-decimal coin selection at nearby coin shops for inspiration. I made two interesting discoveries. The first, a nice Cud on a rather ordinary 1916 Melbourne Shilling. For the other discovery, I noted that the "8" in the 1938 penny is different to that of the 1948 penny. I wonder why ? I have attached pictures of all three coins with my "discoveries" anotated. As they are 2 different years, they might both be perfectly normal coins, just different font used on the 1948 one.
Has anyone got heaps of both years to check it out?
