Seriously? That's the find of a lifetime if genuine....which can't fully be determined from the given pictures. However, I see nothing that is suspect but I can't say 100% it's authentic....it looks like a #4.

I can't say much based on the poor photo quality, but my eye is immediately drawn to the MM. Does the S appear to be extra sharp compared to the rest of the details?
Anywho, I hope it's real. Great find.

Man I hope this is real. When I tell people the one coin I would like to own sometime in my lifetime, I say it is a 1909 VDB S.
I have wanted one of these since I was a kid and I am now 44 (soon to be 45).
I may break down and buy one before it is over, but I would love to find one in a manner similar to this or via metal hunting. I have a nice, used Whites Spectrum XLS I obtained from a good friend of mine and I am just learning the ins and outs of it now that warmer weather is here and I can get out and use it.

I am so happy for you! I wish I had hung on to my first strike of halves when I was beginning to search rolls (I normally search halves and pennies, but I do buy the other coins from time to time). A few yrs ago, I bought a box of halves for $500, just over half had 40% and 90% with the rolls so old the address on the wrappers did not have a ZIP code, but said 'Chicago 40' I turned that into just about 500. That was one awesome case of beginner's luck!
Now, I think I have gone through about 7 or 8 boxes with very little luck. We live in the sticks, so I have to travel a bit to get to a major city. When my husband goes on vacation this summer, we'll take a day and hit the banks all day long. Take what we can use, re-wrap the rest, turn it in, then go to next bank...It'll be a long but fun day.

It took eight months to get certified? Someone has been sitting on this for a spell. Glad to hear that it is legit, let's see the slab images!

Just when you start to tire of the time you've spent searching roll after roll, bag after bag, a post like this comes along to keep you hoping.
Thanks and congrats.

Details holder or not, that is the FIRST genuine SVDB I've ever heard of someone finding in a bag. An extremely rare and virtually impossible find. CONGRATS!
