I would have to agree with others that the holes have got to go! Honest wear is one thing, and not every coin needs to be AU+, but the holes just really detract in my opinion. I would even prefer an "improperly cleaned" example that had lots of detail to one that had a hole through it...

Sounds like you are on the right track! Don't get discouraged if it takes a while, the sense of accomplishment will be worth the wait. With the 19th century type coins like the Bust and Seated series, nice mid-grade coins with honest wear and no major problems will work just fine. The circ-cam look is actually really attractive and desirable in the earlier coinage.

barryg,

Thanks for posting your set to the web for the forum community to admire! It looks really nice the way you have it presented on the web.

Glad you like it, Joe! It's also for my benefit, though -- this way I get to drool over my coins without having to take them out of the safe every time I want to look at them...

I would start with the Indian cents and the eagle cent. Very doable to get an XF in the $100 range I should think.

It sounds like you are on the right track. And replacing the holed coins is the way to start. But you need to decide what is more important to you. Do you want to upgrade the slots that you already have or do you want to fill in the empty slots? My suggestion is to fill in the empty slots with nice coins that will not need an upgrade later.

I have not started my own 7070 yet, but I am seriously thinking about it. I am working on getting together a nice type set of 19th century obsolete coins in XF-AU. This includes one each of Half Cent, large cent, 2 cent, 3 cent nickel and silver, Half Dime, 20 cent, possibly Trade dollar. I am almost finished with this part. I may get the 7070 after that.
