I'm expecting to be highly disappointed. BUT - I came across the auction when it had about 3 mins left, and didn't have time to research much past the sellers feedback history and the auction itself, and had set a limit of $50 and won for much less.

The seller has responded by the way, stating --- "the auction was for a Standing Liberty Half dollar, they look exactly the same as the quarter, just larger." I'm sure I'll be getting a Walking Liberty half now, that does NOT look just like a SLQ. I've replied and told him that his description within the auction states silver quarter, and I expect to receive the coin in the photo or I'll expect a refund. We'll see what comes next.......yay.

Glad its only $25...........

You know that old saying about things that are too good to be true...........

I should have known the photo was stolen, I've looked at Johnny's photo comparison dozens of times and even have it saved to my desktop at home. lol......cheap lesson. The hassle of returning whatever is sent and arguing with the seller will probably not be worth the $ spent.

Be sure to post a picture of the item that you received to this thread. You never know it may be an uncanny coincidence.

I can't access ebay from work right now to double check it. I will say that the one I owned I had sold that coin a year or 2 ago in an ANACS FR2 slab on ebay. I saw it on Heritage a few months ago sell for about $1300. There is always a chance that someone broke it out to sell it as scrap(that would be a REALLY dumb move); but it seems highly unlikely. I'll check it when I get home today.

I'm sure it is just a stolen photo. Thanks anyway Johnny - you know I'm always scanning the bay looking for sleepers in lots, so when I saw this pic and there were only 3 mins left.....I had to act. It wasn't too costly a move.....so I'll accept it as a lesson learned. Maybe I'll start an album of known SLQ finds from various photos here and on a couple other sites so I have a quick reference guide in the future.
Rest in Peace

With 3 minutes left in an auction, if I noticed it was a 1916 I would have done the same thing! I'm interested to see what the seller sent you though.

Of course, if it's anything but the coin in the picture, you have a slam-dunk case protesting the seller sending something besides the coin featured in the auction ad.

(Actually, I REALLY hope you get the coin pictured!!)

That would be great if it was! The coin would have gone from one CCF member to the wild back into captivity with another CCF member.

That would be crazy indeed. But I have my fingers crossed that you get the pictured coin.

UPDATE:

The coin received was a WORN-OUT Walking Liberty half. After contacting the seller offering to work out a solution without filing a complaint or involving negative feedback, we worked out an agreement. Seller will refund enough of the purchase/shipping to leave me having paid $10 for the half, which is about bullion value. I will leave no feedback at all on the transaction. It took me sending 2 pictures, 1 of the coin from the auction, 1 of the coin sent and a link to numismedia with information on the difference in Walkers and SLQ's. I also let the seller know that I know the photo was "borrowed" and there was zero chance she actually had the coin in question. She then admitted she didn't know much about coins and had only sold a couple and had done virtually no research on them.

I chose to try to be amicable and cordial rather than just throwing a b**chfit and filing the complaint. In the end, I believe the seller will be careful if ever selling anymore coins, and I got a worn out Walker for about what I'd have paid for it at a flea market.

Sounds like she may have learned a lesson without any damage to either party.
Thumbs up for taking the high road.
