That being said, we need to shift this back on topic.

Many posts start out on one subject and drift so far from the original, it becomes funny at times.
I too am still waiting to hear what the outcome of all this is. If that bank is like a BOA I go to, I really don't see how the videos could help. The acmeras are all on a wall behind the tellers. None are above them. There are particians between tellers and although not high, they could easily block out the view from cameras not focused on a specific teller. Never seen the videos they make from those cameras but I just don't see how they could help in this situation.
I suspect that if it's a normal bank, they would just hand over the $100 to keep a customer happy. HOWEVER, this too could be a problem for a bank knowing or thinking that if the story got out, more and more people would make the same claims.

Exactly, personally, I can't see this going in the customers favor but you never know. The tape will prove inconclusive and it's a he said/she said. The bank may loose a customer (by not taking his word for it) and get some bad press for a day or so but memories are short and news fades with the next big thing that comes along. Impact for the bank will be minimal.

there was a day (like 100 years ago) that people held higher standards. employees didn't steal and customers were honest in their claims. those days are gone.

EVERY time I go to the grocery store I watch the register as each item is entered. EVERY time there are mistakes (never in my favor). the clerks at quickee mart are the same employees at the bank, mistakes (honest and on purpose) will happen and for every one of those there is a customer who will try to scam the bank...

i feel for the OP, $100 is a big deal to most people, but if you are in such a rush that you don't notice $100 missing... is it at least possible that it went missing BEFORE you handed it to the cashier?

ultimately its YOUR money, if you choose not to look after it someone else will.

I hope you are wrong, but I fear you are right.

Maybe the video showed that he only gave the clerk 100 bucks and he's embarrassed.

Is that why the concept of jails is less than 100 years old?

No, jails are less then 100 years old because the punishments were more draconian back in old times. Mutilation, execution etc...

That was my initial thought also.

History nerd feels the need to pop in and tell you all that jails date back 2000+ years. St. Paul was routinely jailed, and one of the curious things about the Salem witch trials in the 1600s is that accused witches sat docilely in an unlocked, unguarded jail and never tried to make a run for it. The only thing that dates to within the last 100-150 years is the concept of a term, e.g. "six months for burglary;" once upon a time jails were a place where you went until you were freed or hanged.

And now to keep this post relevant: I've been waiting to hear what happened here because it makes me nervous to roll-hunt at my own bank, what news?

I don't think it even got that far.

I'd bet he found the other $100 either in a coat pocket or in the house, making any followup with the bank irrelevant.

You guys don't need to keep insulting him like this. He said they haven't gotten back to him yet and he would try to follow up. Maybe we should just drop this thread. Too many negative assumptions flying around with no evidence. Even if he did make a mistake... mistakes happen, so he shouldn't be ridiculed.

in this case, word of mouth ain't gonna do anything so it's better to have the bank manager review the tapes since most banks have cameras on every teller.

Thank you, murrellington. Well said. Too much of that has been going on around here recently.
