Okay, didn't quite get the setup I want when I got back home, I need to go get some more lights and I will be able to use a more steady place to photograph in the coming days. Here are some new photos with different lighting.

In this color balance of light, the blotchy black makes me think it may be silver oxide or silver sulphide. Both can be hard to remove. You would really need an experienced guy to attempt a cleaning for you. Some scarring of the surfaces may lurk underneath, but it is difficult to say so for sure, from the pictures.

In this regard, when you have the time, take it to a leading coin dealer, they may have contacts or give advice on the best way to help this coin.

I have cleaned a few coins with some success, but if it were mine, I would not attempt this one myself. For this reason, I am loathe to offer cleaning advice.
