Kicked it off with an 1882 CC Morgan. Hummed and hawed and read a ton.

These simply intrigue me.

So the question is, how would YOU experienced collectors grade her? What would you have paid? It is a PCGS slab, but that's the only hint.

I will be posting the full slab picture later, and thus revealing the whole story.

Here she is, in all her glory...

Maybe the lighting is exaggerating the cheek chatter but I'll say 63 from what I'm seeing.

I have to agree with MS63. Do I see a double die clash with slight rotation? Very cool bonus if so.

dave700x,

I was wondering if you could point out the specific areas which would indicate the double die clash?

I am a hardcore newbie and am trying to absorb everything I can.

Thx

The easiest pick up points are the triangle shape in the field below the eagle's left wing extending from the wreath, the line from the eagle's right wing to the "N" in the word "IN" and the line extending from Miss Liberty's neck into the field just below the chin. Double parallel lines indicate a second clash after a slight die rotation. Check out VAMworld.com.
And let me apologize in advance just in case you become addicted.

Too late for that, bought another one already... 1883 CC

Check this link out; scroll to the last picture, under eagles left wing, just above wreath, it's identical, dead ringer. Even in my lousy pictures you can't miss the similarity, they're identical.

Does this increase it's rarity?

Good call by the way!

The 1882-CC is nice, with just a few minor marks and the usual strong strike and luster that you expect for these dates. The photos probably exaggerate the slight scuffing on the cheek and neck, plus CC Morgans often get the benefit of the doubt from PCGS. I'd guess they called this one MS-64.

There's no going back now! With the 1883-CC also "in the bag" you only have 11 to go to complete the Morgan Carson City set!

VAM2E is a I-4, R-7 variety both of which may be just someones guess. The important thing is the VAM2E is on the hit list 40. Definitely a great find if it is in fact a VAM2E. Post a couple of close ups of the key pick up points as shown on the VAM website and the Morgan VAM gurus (of which I am not one) on this forum will confirm this.

I'm going to agree with 52Raymo with MS-64 for two reasons:
-I feel that PCGS is typically a little more lenient with CC Morgans
-The field on the right side of the obverse has a dark spot, so I can't really see if there are any markings or not.

Nice coin!!

I also feel that PCGS gave this one a MS-64. From what I have seen, they seem to go for around $225-250. Nice pickup!

I would say MS63 but sometimes TPGs over grade certain coins, so it may be graded MS64. Getting addicted to CC mint mark coins can be fun but when you start looking at certain years the price jumps pretty high. And there are also coins from other series minted at Carson City too. Good luck

I love CC too, and I would guess MS64. That being said if you got it for under $250 I think you did good.

I really like the CC in the old green PCGS holders.
