My guess is 64. The reverse might go 64, but the obv is 62-63. If its a PCGS coin from a dealer, it was probably resubmitted until they got what they wanted.

Oh, and you asked about price. If my grade guess is correct, you probably paid in the $300 range.

I'm with the majority of the CCF crowd at MS63 in a MS64 holder. The cheek is clean enough to go MS64 at PCGS the marks I see are more likely scuffs rather than digs. There were so many of these coins that sat around waiting for the late 1970 and early 1980's to be released from their bags by the GSA, most of the marks probably came while being shuffled from one storage room to another and then to the counting and packaging room at the GSA.

Great pick at the price you got it for then! And in a PCGS slab too, makes resale if you ever do that much easier! Nice going.

As to the VAM recheck all the other VAM 2 if it is the VAM 2E - well then you did outstanding! The VAM 2 is a Hit list 40 coin, meaning there are active collectors searching for them and the 2E is the coolest one of the VAM 2 bunch, and your's is in fairly high grade, most VAM collectors like there coins either in super low grade or above MS63.

VAM-2 series, especially later die stage become 2D and 2E.
At this stages above, there is a die gouge above L of DOLLAR.
Your coin doesn't have this gouge and it is not from VAM-2 series.

Sorry to burst your bubble... your coin is a VAM-3A.
