I couldn't pass this up today, the shop had some cleaner ones but for one reason or another I chose this one. What do you think it would grade? I'm thinking about VF. I know it's difficult with how dirty the coin is. Look forward to your comments Steve

Can you get a better image of IN GOD WE TRUST? Looks funny to me.

I should be able to pull a better resolution view of it from the original photo, but I won't be able to do that until tomorrow night, I'll get it up though.

I have learned here that it is one of the first places to look closely at on a raw Trade dollar. I am sure those with more knowledge will chime in. Fingers crossed.

A couple of micrographs on those parts of the coin you consider worst will help for us to comment. Looks OK so far. See if you can also get a pic of the edge, in the part you consider worst. Because of the coloring, you may not get it graded by a TPG, nevertheless they will be able to confirm it's authenticity, after comments here. If you are able to get it over these two hurdles, can I have it?

I would only trust certain coins like those in a slab. Too many counterfeits. If its real, I like the crusty look

I will get a real good few shot, I'll do each quadrant of the obverse and reverse and get them up for your viewing pleasure, as well as to educate me. I sure hope this isn't a fake, I bought it from a reputable dealer whom I trust. I should have the photos up tomorrow night.
Thanks for the infos

I don't see any blatent red flags, but I'm by no means an expert in this series.

If gen-u-wine, looks like a good candidate for conservation.

The best I can do for now is to upload higher resolution images. Here are some better quality photos of the obverse and the reverse. Clicking on the images should bring up the much larger and better resolution photos. Thanks Steven

Aye, no blatant red flags at all, but that toning/tarnish sure makes it tricky.

Is it possible to re photograph this coin with a completely different light source such as a florescent lamp with a strong blue color balance?
I think the strong orange cast in the pictures on the screen may be throwing us somewhat.
