Quote:the more attractive Eisenhower dollar was available. Don't know if that's tonque in cheek JBuck but I would say, Yes, Eisenhowers profile is more attractive than Morgans model. You ppl would love the Churchill crown.

Don't forget the absolutely beautiful $4 gold pieces. Both the Flowing Hair and Coiled Hair varieties are stunning designs.

I agree that the Double Eagle is, hands down, the most amazing coin made. The story behind how it was made makes it even more fascinating. Read Renaissance of American Coinage 1905-1908 by Roger Burdette. The 1907 HR is especially impressive in high grades. The spot for the other 4 coins can be debated and are all beautiful.
No one has mentioned the $2.5/$5 indians with its unique incused designed by Saint-Gaudens student, Bela Lyon Prat. The reverse with the eagle standing on the arrows and olive branch representing peace yet our readiness for war. I am drawn to these coins the more I read about them and the era they were produced in. Teddy Roosevelt was the man who motivated the change in our coinage and subsequent production of the these designs along with the Double ealge and $10 Eagle.
I think we should look at not only the design and eye appeal, but at the meaning behind the design.
