Got this at the same time as the other. I don't check varieties. Not an expert on these, just like them and buy them when I can.

All these are really nice looking! I have yet to buy any of this type, but it is on my want list for the future.

I'll play by posting one of my old nickels I sold off years ago. The best looking Shield nickle I've ever owned. If it looks familiar, it's because it was in the classic grading forum earlier this year. For those of you that haven't seen it...

It was purchased raw and graded MS66 by NGC! It was a fun grading exhibit coin due to the die polish and how close it looks to be a proof, those are not scratches, and yes it was almost a cameo in appearance.

Totally stupendous coin and photo West.

This type of graded shot (66 grade) is also great to have available for comparative purposes going forward since many members, including myself, are often gun-shy when designating any coin a 66 or higher.

Many times when grading coins using only photos shown over the Internet the results are subject to distracting factors like incorrect lighting, glare, computer screen settings etc. all of which can often produce inconsistent results...

Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome! As I mentioned this was one cool coin, I first thought it may have been a proof. Wish it had been a proof, as that would've netted me $50K in profit, I did quite well on this piece even so, as I purchased it for around MS64 money. Made a nice little profit on selling it.

I received this from my grandfather back in the late 1960s. The D in UNITED, first S in STATES, and R in AMERICA are open at the top.

Is this a variety? How would it grade?
