So I've decided to start a 50cent collection. I love the design and thought it would be interesting to start this summer.

I was only able to find a few lying around in my collection so far, a 1965, 1974 and the double date 2002. all coins are almost BU condition. I'm making a list from colonial acres , but they charge $2-$3 per BU 50cent piece!! Kinda pricey if I'm getting more than 10 coins. Can anyone suggest a better place to order from? Or should I call banks and see if they have some lying around?

Thanks!

*i'll post progress pics as I get more coins !

I know I have a bunch of extra silver 50cent pieces for sale

I would like to go for silver ones, from proof sets, CA has a few for $10-$15 each. But I will settle for nickel ones since I wont be able to afford every silver proof 50cent piece :P

I would ask around at a few banks. Perhaps your local bank will hold on to any that they get for you. I suspect if you are patient you will be able to get quite a few at face.

Also check this page for a list including major varieties. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ts-1953-2012 You can try the usual suspects; ebay, Kijiji & Craigslist. If you're patient, attentive and a little lucky you can pick up some coins quite cheaply.

I just finished nickel 1968-2012 and proof 1981-1995, it's not hard to collect, only a few tricky ones:
1999P
2000P (I can't find this one, J&M lists it for $5,000?!)
2000W
2002P
2003P
2003WP
2004P

The 2000P half is extremely rare.
It was issued in a special commemorative clock.
According to Charlton there are an estimated 276 examples.

I put together almost my entire nickel 50c piece from just asking at banks. Only a few dates before 2000 and most after 2000 I had to buy...and yes I bought them from ASYN, at about $1 each - not bad (this excludes any 'W' mark or very recent 50c prices).
Good luck with the banks, it's hit or miss, but keep tryin!

ordered some 50c pieces from ebay, one silver 64 and one UNC 74. Going to hit some local banks, but I already tried a few and no luck. Getting them at face value will be a good summer challenge

The problem with silver ones is that they're bigger, so I don't think you could find them in a bank coin roll like you can in the US.
