MercuryDime, that is just odd have always been able to get at least 5 rolls if they were low. Most tellers have a drawer beside them with about 10 rolls of each or if they have a cash cage they can go and get what they need. Customer rolled are in most cases put in with there stock. Nice score :-). Your branch has a coin counter?

so far, I've searched $3500 in quarters and got 2x1964 1x1967...pretty decent luck id say. I get my boxes from RBC, and in a heavily populated area, Richmond Hill and a few times from a downtown branch in Toronto...home to over 3.5 million people. I've tried a box of dimes and nothing, I found it very tedious to search trough dimes because they are so darn small !!

RoyalSilver yes those darn things are to small I remember now why I don't search them anymore, did come up with 1-1965 and a good number of 70s and 80s for the kids collection. I to well be sticking with the other coinage.

So today I went to one of my local branches to pick up my order of $500 quarters. The lady who orders them for me is happy to do it, and always says "hope you get the old ones!" Well unfortunately that was not the case today, as I opened the box in the car on the way home, all 50 rolls were mint wrapped with shiny new quarters!! . I was excited to look trough some coins on my day off...so I just dropped this useless box off at another branch and went to 2 other branches to pick up $100 in dimes and $400 in quarters. well nothing in the quarters...but I found a nice 1953 dime! i guess dimes are "better". However, they are FILTHY!! so much random dirt and grime, sticky stuff and such. The same dirt was from the two different branches.

Last night I went through a box of dimes....... Found: 1968 x1 (50%) 1961 x1 (80%) 1964 USA x1 (90%) 1943 zinc-coated steel Wheat penny x1 (I thought that I really had something special until I did a little research ) 10 cent from Guatemala x1 5p from Guerney x1 5p from UK x2 I don't actively collect foreign coins, but usually keep what I find while roll hunting.

I agree with the penny searching, I just found a 1965 CA dime in a roll of pennies, along with about $15 in Copper.

The problem that I have will searching for copper is selling it. Do you hoard it until the government demonitizes them and they can be melted? Do people really pay melt price (plus shipping [$15 or more depending on weight])for bulk pennies on ebay? It seems like a lot of work (mostly because of the weight involved). With dimes or quarters I can put 20 dimes or 9 quarters in 1 envelope and pay $0.61 plus HST to ship it anywhere in Canada.

I agree with middross....however, I would hope that once the Canadian penny becomes demonetized people will melt all the pre 1996 pennies. Thus making the rarity of the remaining pennies skyrocket....or not who knows :P

I don't think the penny will ever be demonetized... Just seen less & less in circulation, as the banks no longer distribute them, just like the 50 cent piece...

^ That would just strengthen my point. Shipping from Canada for anything thicker than an envelope gets very expensive, especially if you are shipping heavy items. I just can't see copper being worth while for a buyer when they have to pay for shipping.
