Did the mint put out 2 types of these, the old style and the new one that just came out, or just the one new type?

They put out 2 types for each. I have yet to see any of the old style in circulation, but they are available on ebay.

Quote: Has anyone found both types? 2012 new style toonie and loonie are easily found in circulation now. However, the old style toonie and loonie are not in circulation. I bought rolls from coin dealers but they are sold out now. Only ebay or set can get old style toonie and loonie now. https://goccf.com/t/116800

Yes, I have both types. The differance bing the new version of the 2012 loon coin has a moon depicted in the sky above the loon on the water.

The best way to cover the bases is to buy the recalled circulation test set that was just released at mint.ca. It has all the old style and new style loonies and toonies from 2011 and 2012. Also if anyone is wondering...There is to be a maximum of 5 million of the 1812 toonie minted. There were maximum 5 million of the 2011 parks canada toonie and 6.2 million of each special edition quarter from 2011 (falcon, whale and bison). When I say 6.2 million of each I mean 6.2 mill colored and 6.2 non colored of each. cheers.

Not sure what you mean by 'recalled' http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/circu...-prod1410012It doesn't seem to contain the old style 2012 $1 or $2. But you can get them in the regular circulation set. http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/uncir...-prod1230009I have ordered another circulation set that is coming out next month called a "2012 Special Edition Unc Set" at 14.95 but there is no product page for it on mint.ca so I'm not sure what is in it. It was available as a subscription back in May (ordered the reg circ set and subscribed to get the spec ed. in Sept.)

Yes that is the set at the mint. sorry I should have been more specific. The coins were created for callibrating vending machines and then sent back to the mint.

Hey, if anyone's interested in trading one of my 2012 toonies for 2 of your 2012 loonies, I'm here. Ha! Still no luck finding this darned coin.

I got one of each of these this month in a trade with samsnate. A rather odd color change from the 2011 and prior issues.

It's been about a year since anybody responded to this thread. Does anybody have an update on the status of the 2012 loonie (original logo style - not security version)?
I've gone through about 2,000 loonies and can't find one.
Does anybody know how many were minted, or how many were released into circulation? Are these loonies out there, or are they rare?
Thanks!

Don't think the mintage numbers are out but rolls of the old style loonie sell in the $150+ range. That suggest to me that they are hard to find.

Last winter a Brinks truck traveling through northern Ontario crashed and $5 000 000 (I think) worth of old style loonies and toonies were spread across the trans Canada highway.
Did these coins make it into circulation? And will these coins be included in the Mints annual report?
Lots of questions!
