Received a surprise via UPS today, the Defenders of Freedom Sets that I ordered from the Mint when the Infantry Soldier coins first went on sale back in February. The Mint's website is currently posting "Product will be available for shipping 08/14/2012" so its arrival was unexpected. The Mint's posted images appear to be accurate for the finished product. Two nice touches are: 1) the coin's capsule is protected by a tear-away plastic cover, and 2) the "dog tag" is enclosed in a small plastic bag for protection. A pair of quick images... I did not know this existed. I will admit that when it comes to my mint correspondence, I usually focus on the annual proof sets and only casually notice the other e-mail and snail-mailings from them. Usually I find out about the cool stuff here on CCF first.  Regardless, it is very nice!  |

 with jbuck ... I was completely unaware of the existence of this packaging ... seems to me that your world-class ephemera set needs this one. Sooo ... I can picture a time way in the future ... 30 years out ... and commems is sharing to educate the next generation of commemorative fans ... and in his thread on the 2012 Infantry Dollar he shows these photos as a 'related material'. Just like he has done for all of us with his world-class classic silver set.  Hoping to get commems interested in a circulated classic silver set ... then he would have a true collection. Lucky yours showed up so soon. I'm still waiting on the ones I ordered but it does look fantastic from your pictures.
For only 2 dollars more I couldnt resist.
But once again the mint shows its short comings with how many people even on this forum didnt know it existed. Theyre almost sold out, but with better advertising I believe this could have sold out rather quickly

Thanks for posting about it, since I didn't know about it either. I haven't bought any commems the past couple of years, since silver is so high in price. It is driving them out of my price range.
What kind of metal is the dog tag made of? Is it aluminum?

Yeah, I would doubt you would find very many, if any, circulated modern commems. Unless you are talking about coins like the bicentennial, State Quarters, 2009 quarters, park quarters, etc.? |

jbuck/wquinn: I agree, finding circulated modern NCLT commems would be next to impossible. You could always cheat and just buy raw coins and circulate them yourself |
