I have been CRH (& bags) - about $250 worth of pennies now & surprised @ how many shiny '60 - '80 ones are still floating around out there in EF shape. Lot of wheats still out there too! But not very many shiny wheats, I grant you -

I won a few lots of Lincoln wheat pennies at a local auction a few years back. Between those and the wheaties my father-in-law pulled from circulation in the late 1950s, I've put together a nice start to my penny collection. Most of my pennies from 1950 on are AU to BU, but the majority of the years I have are P only, there are few Ds in there. I've got a smattering of pennies from 1909 to 1940, but many holes still. 1939 to 1962 P,D,S (to 1955) is completely filled in now, and most of those are VF to AU. My 1909 VDB is very interesting. I got it as change from a store. It appears to have only recently entered circulation, as it is still bright like a BU or even a proof coin, but of course has been battered a little from being handled and circulated. Here is a link to the topic with some photos of that 1909 VDB. https://goccf.com/t/143041

I just mentioned this in my other post, but I'm starting to collect rainbow Lincolns. Nice variation, and it's CHEAP!

I got a 1970's proof in my change!! I think it's a 1970.. don't really remember if the date is right though. The proof is pretty nice shape but sadly is not that high of a grade. I would say maybe proof-62.

I have an interesting story for you... Many years ago... 1982ish I worked at a grocery store. There was an older gentleman who would come in and clean up the back room for a few bucks and he always stuck around telling great stories. Back then he had to be 70+ and was truly a gem of a guy.
Anyway we got to talking and somehow I had mentioned that I collected coins. He said he had saved wheat pennies for years and years and had about 3500 of them. I had to ask if he was interested in selling any of them and he told me he'd sell all of them. He said he wanted 1 1/2 cents for every penny he had. So for $52.50 I had purchased 3500 pennies. What I was amazed to find is that over the years he had rolled them in penny rolls based on years and mint marks.. That's right, already organized for me.
I can't tell you how much fun it was to go through all of those pennies filling an album or two. They were all circulated coins from good to xf condition but the fun wasn't so much in the condition but in the thrill of the hunt. I still go back through those rolls even know more than 30 years later...
So... Do I collect pennies, I guess you could say yes as I have thousands of them ;)

Yes,add me to the throng of "Abe" collectors! I love the lincs. C'mon, what other denomination can one collect so inexpensively? Than, have the joy and the thrill of the hunt,as they say. In my collection I do have the coveted "1909sVDB". Graded,of course (PCGS). Every Lincoln collector should have at least ONE 1909sVDB in their collection. If not, well,I don't think you love the linc. as a true linc. collector. My opinion, anyway.I love the well condition as well as, the variety/error's. Right now, I'm focusing on the 2009p Formative Years varieties. These are up and coming,Watch out, hunt these down so you won't be left out! -joey

Still going, I thought I'd stop when I completed the set.
I have 1 complete set of 1909-2009, 1934-end at MS and most of the P as MS from 1909-1933. Constantly upgrading to get the whole thing as MS. When a coin comes out of book 1 and goes to book 2 and on and on.
Second book needs the S mint marks through 1915, but they will get there as book 1 gets upgraded

I am working on the whole series 1909 to present, upgrade when I can. I have 80% of the dates, and always will be looking to improve quality. I love the series and also the new reverses that are being offered on the latest releases.
