I was already thinking along the same lines as Turbo...anyone bidding on this coin probably already knows everything there is to know about it. I watched the sample video and I can't see much that they could say about it that isn't already well known. I knew nothing of the Carson City coins before I found this one, now I know plenty...surely collectors would know as much...?

Personally, if I were in your situation, as I now sat here thinking about it. I'd respond politely, telling them what a great idea this is. I'd go on to say how I hope for the best and feel confident that collectors are being reached, as your total confidence is had by already being partnered with heritage.
If, however, it is something they so confidently need as the best interest of the price realized is shared, perhaps you would want to incur the fee for such a video or at most split the cost, be it halved or equal to the sellers fee percentage scale.
I just don't think this coin needs the video and I furthermore don't think you need to be responsible for this fee.
Sorry if I'm speaking too strongly.

do it but tell them to suck it up and throw it in. It's not $500 worth of man-hours to create a short overview video and it will be nice to have but for your coin they have a greater risk versus reward scenario as well and they should should be giving you a video sp[spotlight out of courtesy
i mean a coin, dug out of the ground and of the rarest kind...it's like an adventure story...Ummm, Heritage, step up to the plate and sell this thing in any way you can to get the most money

Meanwhile, I wasn't near a computer when I wrote those two posts earlier. Now, on a computer watching the video on that link... Joe.. from one Joe to another.... For a fee of $BraggingRights, I will produce a video with more tone, conviction, enthusiasm, charisma and charm than that flash back from still frame to monotone gentleman...anytime! LOL

Some MS coins have really outstanding color and luster, so a video of them tilting in the light might boost the potential sale value (see e.g. the video for this redonk bust half), but I don't think somebody just reading a description of the coin adds that much.

Let them roll the dice on the video if they want. Personally I don't see any need in the video given the sophisticated market for this coin. Now if they're offering to give away free balloons, I might consider breaking down and flipping for that. But I'd look at this video as their cost, not yours. They think it's worth the expense, let them pay for it.

Their video service is a classic example of vertical expansion of services offered and is most definitely one that commands an obscene gross margin for them. That in itself rubs me the wrong way as does the implied notion that they were doing EVERYTHING possible to maximize the price your coin commands as part of the original agreement, but for $500 more, they'll do what really should be done.
Of course, there may be a rare case here and there where a video somehow helps, but I can guarantee you this...they know exactly how much additional profit is in that $500 fee for them, but they would not be able to cite any empirical data showing how often and how much it benefits the owner of the coin.
If it were me, I'd respond with a well crafted message suggesting they pick up the tab (which is probably less than $50 in marginal costs accounting-wise to them) or you would if they produce the video and the selling price exceeds some predetermined level you set. Then I would expect they would likely decline.
Anyway, best of luck to you, as always.

@Onebowl: Great reply! I should just rewrite your post and send that.

I would go with Onebowl's response - I think this being a coin of potentially a lifetime that the collectors who seek it will probably know about it so this might get them to up their bid. If HA truly believes that service will make a huge difference then they can eat the cost. Remember they just increased the buyers premium...

That was a gorgeous Half CaptainFwiffo, and pretty low-tech (but effective) way of selling the incredible color and toning. I agree with the other about the outrageous price for a one minute video of a still shot and someone reading from a script; $500? I am in the wrong business! I wonder if those types of videos can be placed into an ebay auction?

How long do you have to decide about the video suggestion? Sorry I didn't see this topic earlier. I agree completely with the comments made by most on here regarding HA just trying to get some extra profit margin by charging $500 for a video.
However, to play "devils advocate", I will mention this. There are folks with more money than they know what to do with. There are folks with said money that are looking for presents for loved ones etc. How many coins get the video treatment during their auction? Only the high level ones? If that's the case, I could see the people that are "shopping" for coins to be more attracted to something that the auction house has deemed "important". I also think that while the high end collectors know what this coin is, they are probably the ones that view the "videoed" coins first as well since they know only really nice coins get this service.
Again, this all depends on the rarity of these videos. if there are only 5 out of a thousand that get this treatment, that in of itself may make it see more bids. Just my opinion and some food for thought.
Good luck regardless and great find.
