It didnt solve the kennedy problem as silver got to pricey but if they were set on silver it could have worked for a bit as that was around the time they stopped making the kennedys out of it. Would have been cheaper than what they chose at least.

Take a look at what the old dollar coins looked like back then and what they look like now. Much prettier back then. For what its worth the west was pretty behind the east for the longest time and still had kind of a wild west feel which probably helped the dollar coin, that no longer holds true today

Silver would have gotten too pricey for the Peace dollar as well as it is exactly twice as big as the Kennedy half dollar.

I agree on the west.

It definitely would have, but it could have allowed that group to hit the market first instead of being melted back down before leaving the mint

Sadly yes, but 1 more would have been better than nothing.

I really wish they would bring back some of the old designs.

Same, no offence to Theodore Roosevelt in particular.

The dollar and the change designs are far to similar for me. Really US circulated coinage just needs a giant overhaul anyway. None of it has any purchasing power at the moment on its own

No sure if this was mentioned yet, but there were minted examples shown in congress which never were returned....they some how disappeared into the private collections of someone...

I wonder what senators or congressmen gained some nice family heirlooms out of it?

I would pull rank for sure if people were making claims to those coins.

The government cares just for the principle of it. If they stopped caring, it would show that they eventually give up. This shows weakness. On another note, just imagine the secret service monitoring this thread right now. :)

No where did he say anything about weighing them. He said everyone had to sign a statement that they didn't have any. That's it. Sorry but I would bet my last dollar that there are a few out there somewhere.

Actually about 7% bigger than two JFK halves.

Step one: Explain how something can exist.

Step two: After proving the possibility of
existence, deny all possibility of survival.

Step three: Stay tuna-ed.
