Found this ugly duck while roll hunting.

Doesn't stick to a magnet, but sounds similar to a 1943 steel

Weighs 2.6 grams....

could acid, some other corrosive shave off over a half gram?

Umm, yes. Especially when the coin turns out that pitted and ugly. That definitely accounted for your weight loss.
