The one show I attend charge $6. I talked to one dealer who stopped setting up at that show because the security there is a joke.

I think it's silly to charge $2 to allow me to enter and spend hundreds.

I didn't vote because I've had to pay up to $12 to get into a once a year coin show in Queensland, Australia. It's a case of pay up or don't go. Last weekend, I paid $6, with a $2 off voucher plus Pensioner discount. Another bi-annual one I sometimes go to costs $2. If entry to the US ones are free, you are doing well.  life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

I have never been to a coin show as I spend most of my time working in the middle of nowhere and I live a long way from where the shows are held.  If I ever do get the opportunity to attend one of these functions I have no qualms about handing over an entrance fee. I occasionally go to the races and have to pay to get in I generally always loose my money, but I have fun doing it and it is a great day out with the family.  At least at a coin show the money spent gets you some of the coins you like and would be a great day out as well. I think the entrance fee would be good value for a few bucks |

let me add to my first post: the coin show local to me is once a month and its free to get in. If it was only 1-2 per year, I could understand paying an entrance fee.

putting an admission price on will only keep those without a lot of money from attending, giving those with the money more chance to get richer.
put an honour tin up and watch who puts in, I bet its the richer people who walk straight past, and those with less will nearly always put something in. I have witnessed this in things I have been a part of, also the same when I was doing charity colletions, the rich suburbs slam the door, the poorer suburbs usually say hang on I will see what lose change we have. go figure

Here in Brisbane, a city of 2 million people, there are three coin shows a year. The "national" coin show (which is on the scale of a small multi-state regional coin show in the US) costs $10 to get in, though there are discount coupons readily available to get you in for $8.
A smaller-scale show happens twice a year. This costs $2 to get in.
I'd happily pay both.

I would more than happily hand over $10 to get in. The more the organiser gets from admission, the less the dealers have to pay to have a table and then the cheaper the prices (in the wonderful theoretical world that is).

I work in a shop and we don't charge customers an entry fee, to come in and spend money. Where is the difference? Steve  |

Yeah, Long Beach Expo is 6 bucks and parking was 5. I don't mind as long as the money is going into something worthwhile, ie advertizing, I would like to see some money going into more attractions for kids at these shows.

A couple bucks for adults is fine, kids should be free. The flea market here is $1.50.

I too have never been to a coin show. I understand that there are 1 or 2 a year in London I will make an effort to get down to one of them even if they are expensive to get into (and I expect they will be)
I think it is a balance, a couple of dollars is probably not going to put too many people off (at least it shouldnt put off the ones who have money and want to spend it)

I pay $2 for most of the shows I attend some go as high as $6. Most offer you something in return such as a raffle ticket for an hourly prize draw. Usually a gift coupon for the tables.
Most shows I go to are small and benefit a club so I have no issues paying.

I chose the highest amount listed ($3) because to me, this is entertainment, and I find coin shows entertaining. Edited by oih82w8
