Another great coin! ... Quote: Genius standing left, modius on head, naked but for chlamys over left shoulder, liquid flowing from patera in right hand, cornucopia left ... wow, there are a couple of words in that reverse-description that I'm gonna have to go reserach!! Modius Chalmys Patera => thanks for the cool chore!! (keep-up the good work!!)

#8: Caracalla, Nikopolis ad Istrum 196 - 217 A.D. Obv: AV K M AVP ANTΩNINOC, laureate head right Rev: NIKOΠOΛITΩN ΠPOC ICT, eagle standing on a thunderbolt, head right, wreath in its beak I got this coin in an uncleaned lot about two years ago. It was completely covered in cement-like dirt and it took many months in olive oil with frequent scrubs to get it the way it is now. There is still dirt remaining on the coin but I do not want to remove it because I don't want to risk damaging the patina. The color in this picture is close to the actual emerald-green color in real life. Since this coin I have not gotten any more provincials in uncleaned lots.

yacg, Coin #8 is awesome, to find this coin in a uncleaned lot must got you excited, the lot I got, I'm still finding different coins every day. it's a lot of work to clean them!! Where do you buy your unclean coin's ? like this one, I like to get some more unclean coin's, but I would like to get a nice coin like this when I'm done...... You did a very good job...keep'em coming....

Thanks Eng! I buy my uncleaned coins from two places: ebay (if you know what to look for) and dirtyoldcoins.com. Both have good lots that tend to yield nice coins. I think dirtyoldcoins.com is much better and certainly more reliable.

Hi, ancientcoin20yrold ... well, you certainly continue to impress, first with your coins and second with your great attention to your viewers and their replys ... => number #8 is another winner!! (ya gotta love the animal coins, eh? ... oh, wait a minute, is a bird an animal? ... yah, sure it is ... maybe?) ... anyway ... here is where I would have posted a photo of a bird with a human head, or something along those lines (man, I've gotta figure-out how to use photo-bucket, lickety-split!!) => hot thread and beauty coins, acg

Thanks guys. I have a question for y'all. Do you think I should try to get the rest of the dirt off of the coin?

20acg => I would love to look really bright here, but sadly I have "never" cleaned a single coin, so all I can say is: "huh, I dunno?" ... oh, but I should also say "hey thanks", to all of you dudes that actually clean coins ... => patience is a virtue (sadly, I'm not that good at a few of the virtues!!) => a20cg => I think your coin looks hot, but I admit that it still has some sand on it ... but obviously it must get more stressful at this stage, not wanting to screw-up all of the work that you've already sunk into your coin, eh? ... risky business Cheers ... you seem like a very good head (I'm sure that you'll figure-out this assignment, Mr Bond) ... insert photo-bucket photo here

yacg, Coin # 8,I do like it the way it is, but I would try cleaning it just a little more, I went back to my Nerva and did some tune up and came out much better.... Coin # 9 is very cool, well centered, surface is even, with great color. I was going through my pile and I have found 2 camp gate coin's, might try to get a pic up to..
