2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set

Claire your idea of spreading your purchases out over the whole period will give you a chance of seeing if there is any differences between the start and end of the production run. I am thinking of doing the same. However, I don't have as large of family to purchase gifts for.

Yet you idea of adding silver to your purchase is very intriguing. To tell you the truth I wasn't thinking along those lines yet I will also do just that.

Does anyone else here think that there will be differences in the sets from the start to end of the run? That proposal has been pushed on other forums. We haven't heard of any variants popping up with the 25th anniversary sets and this set is at best less than twice its size.

How many die changes do you think will be necessary to make 200,000 sets? Because after all the only way that variants will be created is through die changes. I don't see Grease Filled Dies being an issue given the inspection steps that should be taken by the mint.

I just placed my order for another set (3rd one, along with 1 2012 proof and 2 2011 unc ASE) and the "Expected to ship on" date is 9/28/2012. My original order still has 7/27/2012 for that date. This may well mean that sets ordered have surpassed the original production run of coins. It might also mean that sets ordered now will not be eligible for FS/ER labels.

The end date has always been July 5th, nothing has changed. Both coins will carry the S mint mark. All circulation, proof and uncirculated coins, except Philadelphia cents, carry mint marks. Bullion coins are struck without mint marks. Interestingly, even the 9/11 medals have mint marks, something not routinely done for medals from the US mint. There is no way the end date will be extended. For a set that has had daily orders of a couple thousand sets, no amount of whining will cause the mint to act. The mint will honor all orders placed up until the deadline (5PM ET on July 05). The change in shipping dates is almost certainly the result of orders being taken for the coins already minted. I think it was always the plan to do the final strikes after sales conclude. The mint will likely start press runs when orders warrant doing so, just to even out the shipping. What number that is that triggers another press start (or how many coins are struck in a single run) is not known. The two month slip in shipping dates (keeping in mind that these dates are not typically fact based) is a hint that the initial production runs ended about two months ago, about one month before sales began.

I was kicking around some ideas and started to wonder if the mint does a stand alone sale of the 2012 eagle (not the reverse proof) with the "s" mintmark? What effect would that have the collecting crowd? You know similiar to what they are doin with the ATB with the circulating "s" mintmark quarters.

I do believe that there would be a lot of screaming.
