After seeing larger pics, I'm a bit suspicious. With the mintmark position it would have to be Obverse 4 but the serifs don't look vertically parallel. It may just be the photos. I would really like to see clearer pictures of the mintmark and VDB before I make a definitive judgement.

with the photos larger, it appears to be a totally different color!

AU55-58

A slight wear on the high points of cheek & hair above the ear. Color isn't what I would expect, but might be original. Reverse isn't clear enough on my IPhone to grade it as I would like.

If it has full luster I would say AU58.

Judging fakes isn't my forte', so I'll leave that to others.

Back from PCGS

Lincoln-Set-Complete---1909-S-VDB---Photos-Updated

but I bought this from a reputable dealer as ANACS certified in this holder as AU 50/55
Lincoln-Set-Complete---1909-S-VDB---Photos-Updated
I talked to a few dealers at a show yesterday and they all couldn't believe PCGS. The reactions ranged from 'Unbelievable' to just shaking of their heads. One of them said that they are really tough on copper. Another said to crack it out, sit it on a window sill in the sun for a couple of months to 'retone' and resubmit.

The dealer I bought it from offered an even up trade for a raw XF-45 S VDB.

Any Thoughts?

I'm confused. How is an Unc. (say it isn't cleaned), an even trade for an XF? And why is PCGS or even having it slabbed so important to you? Why not try anacs if you're insisting on a slab?

Just curious! It is definitely a really handsome coin.

It's not all bad news with the details slab....at least it is genuine! CONGRATS!

Assuming the dealers saw what I suspect, I'd probably go ahead and windowsill retone it a little. It certainly doesn't look like it was harshly cleaned from the pictures, if it was cleaned at all. It looks like a nice MS coin and PCGS isn't always right.....especially when it comes to copper.

The surface is too flat for that state of preservation. This isn't the only SVDB in a Genuine slab for that very reason.
