Wow! This is a wonderful idea! Now a quick trip to the coin store for 1908 IHCs, a 1909 VDB or two, and to top it off, several 1893 morgans and I'll be rich in no time!!

He got it at an estate sale. Maybe the D was in a separate lot?

(To be fair, below AG the mintmark is often almost completely obliterated. An in-hand examination might actually be able to find it; somebody labeled the 2x2 as '16-D for a reason, though I wouldn't take that chance.)
