I went in a local pawn shop today. They had a few slick Barber quarters and a Barber half. They gave them to me for about 50% of melt. I also got a few silver casino tokens for half of melt. I was floored, since most shops charge double melt! |

This shop just recently started selling coins, and their prices are all over the map. The Barbers are all pretty slick, some almost a gram low. The half is a 1902-O toned solid black, so she sold it for $5. The quarters were $3; one was dateless, with two 1915s and a 1911. The $10 gaming tokens were face value. I guess they didn't realize they have 2/3 ounce of silver each.

I thought gaming tokens were made of something other than silver. Slot tokens, right ?

Here's a photo. The casino tokens are UNC, and still in capsules. They're from around 1996, and have a 20 gram .999 center with a brass rim. Two are from Mississippi, and one from Las Vegas. They can go for quite a bit on ebay sometimes. I would have bought more, but everything else was above melt...  Edited by CPC24

Great pickup. Even in the poor condition for the coins, to get a half for $5 and quarters for $3 reminds me of the good ole days about 3 years ago when we could get silver for those prices lol.
