Bench warmers (AU-UNC) are OK, but sometimes I see things that "just need bought" like these 2 LCs that I just picked up at the post office this morning. I paid 20 dollars for both. I dig so many that are basically shot ... that I can hardly resist a decent large cent for 10 dollars. I figured since one is an 1851, I could share a couple "players" with you all. Chance

Quote: Question: Is it just me, or is the date on my 1850 LC smaller than everyone elses? Moe, that 1850 you have not only has a small date but the head is smaller also. Anyone got answers for this one? Didn't know 1850 had large and small dates.

amida17, Moe's coin looks real and not only the date is smaller but so is the head. Looks more like one from 1840-43. The coin discussed in the other thread is no doubt a counterfeit. This one has me stumped. Does anyone have a Newcomb book to check dies on this one? Here's the list of die varieties but I don't have photos to check to. Newcomb 1 - Common Newcomb 2 - Very Common Newcomb 3 - Very Common Newcomb 4 - Very Common Newcomb 5 - Very Scarce Newcomb 6 - Very Common Newcomb 7 - Common Newcomb 8 - Delisted Newcomb 9 - Common Newcomb 10 - Delisted Newcomb 11 - Scarce Newcomb 12 - Very Common Newcomb 13 - Very Scarce Newcomb 14 - Very Scarce Newcomb 15 - Common Newcomb 16 - Delisted Newcomb 17 - Very Scarce Newcomb 18 - Very Scarce Newcomb 19 - Common Newcomb 20 - Very Rare Newcomb 21 - Common Newcomb 22 - Very Scarce Newcomb 23 - Common Newcomb 24 - Very Rare Newcomb 25 - Very Scarce Newcomb 26 - Rare Newcomb 27 - Rare Newcomb 28 - Scarce I think I've been had by Moe. The obverse of his 1850 looks like a Half Cent, The reverse photo is a Large Cent.

I was not implying it was a fake. Very new Newcomb owner so with a quick glance I would say N12 or N17 or 18. No mention of different size date or bust in Newcomb. Ireally have no idea lol

amida17 I compared Moe's photo to an 1850 Half Cent and they look the same.

IGE... it does! The tilt of the 8 to the left and size of the date do look like a Half Cent....
