Thanks for the heads up on the Canada Post availability. Just ordered one.

I have ordered many items from Canada Post and there doesn't appear to be a lower limit on the $ amount for free shipping.

Just picked up a Young Wildlife Series specimen set from the post office. I was surprised to see that the loonie had the dates 1987-2012. Are these in the uncirculated sets also, or is this a new variety?

The standard specimen finish loonie is only available in the Young Wildlife set.

I was referring to the dual dates, not the finish. RCM photos of both the uncirculated set and specimen set show a single date.

Thanks so much! Other online suppliers are charging a premium for the $20 moose and limit of 1.

Really appreciate the heads up. I just put in an order too!

@Grandpapa, looks like you got the Silver-Plated 25th Anniversary of the Loonie Coin version (@$25.00) - but in a SPECIMEN finish. Look at the obverse, do you see SP/AP under the queen's effigy?

According to the RCM specs, the regular loon should be nickel electroplated with bronze, with SPECIMEN finish (like the one you have but with single date). The Silver/Plated Loonie should be in uncirculated finish (all shiny).

Very interesting. I haven't received any of those coins so I don't know, maybe the RCM artwork/specs are incorrect?

Also, I don't know if this was a shadow effect but the silver plating doesn't look right on the edge at 4 o'clock.

I was just at the post office but didn't look closely at the set. Of course, the Wolf Club set that I ordered from the mint has yet to be delivered but as C_C said, the loon per the Mint's photo is not supposed to be double dated.

I'm interested to see if grandpapa has an error or just the RCM hasn't posted an incorrect photo (my guess is the latter).

Note that the two loons listing on the mint.ca shows the wrong outer cover too. My guess is that the website folks and shipping folks had the same training.

The loon is not silver plated. It is the normal (old) composition. Sorry if my photo "skills" misled anyone.

I don't think we thought it was silver, just that possibly the mint made a mistake and used the die for the 25th anny loonie to make the specimen loonie in your set.

I guess we need some others who have the specimen set to check theirs to see if they are all double dated or just yours.

As C_C ask, does the obverse show SP/AP under the Queen?

Still, this isn't as per the Mint's artwork. Anyone else got the set?
Rest in Peace

Specimen Set - 25th Anniversary of the Loonie (has 2 chicks & mom swimming) IS double dated 1987 -2012. I imagine that the mistake is made in the presentation on the web-site with the wolf cub specimen set. They probably used a stock photo, and only added/altered the twoonie to show the wolf cubs.

The silver plated loon, gold-plated silver proof loon, and normal proof loon are all the same double-dated reverse.

So, it wouldn't be surprising if the trend continued into this set.

Anyone else see the similarity between the 1992 Aviation Series and this coin?

200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
20th anniversary of the Aviation Series.

Double entendre?

The same feature (gold plated cameo insert).
