@unclekim: Thanks for the numbers, really odd isn't it. I guess it all comes down to design then. Gold-fish and wealth is a spot-on match; the lion with happiness is not exactly right but not does not feel as odd as blessing strength with dragons and tigers. Happiness and Wealth (and Good Fortune) are traditional "blessings" whereas strength is the odd ball psuedo-Chinese well-wishing that just don't feel right. Maybe the collectors are mostly Asian or are sensitive to the culture. Quote: fyi fyi a silver maple leaf sold for $20 at a garage sale last weekend. ! means nothing.

Looking at the fishing village, I hope it turns out as nice as the pine tree.

Ordered some this morning but stayed away from the Coast Guard themes. Is anyone excited about them? They look okay but I may be getting tired of anniversary coins (Jubilee, Titanic, Stampede, etc etc). I'm sure the Grey Cup 100th and the 200th anniversary of maple syrup are coming soon. The 1 oz ag Bateman is my pick for winner in the under $200 class. The au Panda is likely the king of the high value coins. Btw - ships on 16-07-2012

Quote: Btw - ships on 16-07-2012 I think they meant 2013. I don't see many winners here. Even the Panda is far to over priced and I'm afraid I have to agree with Toronto1 on this one. I think if gold prices go down you will be able to pick this coin up for under $500. It's only a 1/3 of a ounce and priced double spot. Not good value. The only thing I like is the dew drop coin and the test tokens. Passing on everything else. After seeing what the mint can do with the first Group of Seven coin it looks like many of these coins were engraved by summer interns. The panda coin looks like a 10 year old did it and is put to shame by the gold coins that are issued from China. To many coins is not the problems, to many bad coin is. P.S. 2014 is the 50th anniversary of the Tim Horton's brand, maybe they can do a doughnut shaped coin with crystal sparkles for that. Even cooler would be if you could lick it and it tasted like a doughnut, now that would be a world first.

The 1 oz. Bateman is by far the best for me. I guess all the complaining worked with a limit of 1 coin per house now I will have to put in several orders with other people to get them for me while the big dealers can get 100's of them and start charging a premium for them from the start.

Quote: I guess all the complaining worked with a limit of 1 coin per house I agree. Limits of one are stupid and I have complained to the mint about this issue. All this does is force people to create multiple accounts or order through friends and family. Or worse, we can simply order from Canada Post (or other dealers) with no limits which just cuts into the Mint's profits.

@CC-Ottawa, I took a pass on the coast guard as well, although the wood case and the tiny bottle with a metal piece looks nice, but overall, there's not much wow in the coin itself.
I like the HMS Shannon a lot though. I see lots of details in the engraving. For the Group of 7, I just had to order one since I plan on completing the series. It looks really blah from the picture. Finger crossed that it will turn out at least okay in person. I was impressed by the 1st one in person.

The 2004 MAJESTIC MOOSE COIN AND STAMP SET is nicer and can be purchased for around $85 on ebay. The 2012 bullion moose looks better and is 1/2 price. So is the Mint asking $50 more for the fact that this coin is: Quote:
Special features: • A MINT FIRST! The design of your coin uses a Robert Bateman painting as inspiration. • A MINT FIRST! Your coin displays Robert Bateman's engraved signature! • NEW! Your coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Sorry, I think one might be much for me. I'm going to pass on this one. To many moose coins for me.

Quote: I like the HMS Shannon a lot though. Love the look of this coin, its a large diameter coin at 34mm, but its only 15.8g. About 1/2oz of silver or about $14 of silver. I feel like if I buy this at more than 4X spot my butt will begin to hurt from the raping the mint gave me. I would be a buy if it were a 38mm 1oz coin. I'm afraid this is a pass also, especially considering the value of the $2 HMS Shannon coins.

Quote: Do you really need more than one? Yes. Bateman is a signifant name in my family so this becomes an easy gift - but not if I can only buy one. Quote: The 2004 MAJESTIC MOOSE COIN AND STAMP SET is nicer and can be purchased for around $85 on ebay. Have a few of 2004 coin and stamp. Not sure where you see sales of 85$ for that set. In the past two months, the set has sold for between $112 and $200 on ebay and sold for more in the past during a better economy. Issue was $39.95. I agree that is a nicer design but moose coins in general have done well in the past.

How about the test token set? I find that the middle toonie and loonie are with laser mark but dated 2011 in this set. Does it mean that there are only 25000 loonie and toonie with laser mark and year 2011 in the world?

@dodola: under the Special Features section, it says: • Limited to 25,000 sets worldwide from the 1 million test tokens created! So I guess there are 1 million these token created, but RCM put together 25000 as set for sale. The other 75,000 might still be in the hands of those vending machine company people, or end up on ebay.
