ARP is alloy recovery program, the mints way of reclaiming metals like copper and nickel, replacing coins in steel and zinc versions.

after reading up on the ARP... should I separate any coins that are pre 2001? the wife brings home coins for me to go through every night and I think it may be worth the effort to hold them

Nope, currently, the only coins out there where the base metal value exceeds face value, are pre-1982 5-cent coins.

I was going through my loose change jar because it was getting full and found this. Not sure what store it came from? Gives us some hope that there still a few in the wild.

I've never posted here, because I usually don't find Canadian coins way down here, except for the occasional penny or dime. However, I found a fairly nice one yesterday. I was going through a bag of halves, when I saw a young Elizabeth II on the reverse, and a wolf on the obverse. Apparently, it's for the 1967 Canadian centennial. I've never found Canadian halves in circulation before, especially not silver.

Thanks. This one is 80%, right? The next year ('68) they went 50%, I think. It's really pretty; I'm going to keep it for a while.

CPC24-
Your partially right.
The 67 50c was 80% Silver.
The 68 50c was made of Nickel.
(Some 68 10c & 25c were 50% Silver)

yes, but actually for the halfs they are all 100% nickel in 68 (only the quarter and dimes have either 50% silver/copper or the 100% nickel) so the dollars are nickel as well.

take a good look at it, this year there are a lot of errors, double dies, rotations etc.

I mistakenly assumed they were like the '68 quarters or dimes, at 50%. I just missed the cutoff, then. Good to know.

I hate when I find an old US dime or quarter and it's a '65; so close! I've seen quite a few 40% halves down here lately, though.
