As usual I can't post a photo as I'm unable to upload. Today I purchased 6 nice (F-XF) Large Cents. One of which was a 1839. So, I see there is a Braided Hair variety. What does that look like compared to a non-Braided 1839. As always Thank You for any help as I probably don't deserve it considering my attitude sometimes.

If you're buying coins like this, you might wish to pick up a Red Book.

From 1839 to 1857, the head is slightly different compared to those minted '35 - '39. In my mind, all large cents from 1816 - 1857 are Braided Hair, and within that there are sub-varieties. Other people break them out differently. I guess because I'm not a late date specialist at this point I don't worry about such things.
