It does look like it has been cleaned to remove the verdigris and may have been re-toned artificially.
The toning just doesn't "look right" to me

Recolored. The rims tell all. Looks like he used a darkening agent.

I think the coin will be a little darker in hand, lighting for the photo gives it a lighter more milk chocolate color. It is a nice coin though, razor sharp detail.

Would Renwax, that is sometimes used on ancient bronze coins, have been used here?

Looks great! Probably every non-red copper has been cleaned and re-toned. If you want a more natural look, assuming you buy it, get some finger oil on it, carry t around in your pocket (without other coins) and it will look great.

Personally I put coppers in a private area and they look great. This technique was discussed in Sheldon's "Penny Whimsy", so it's been arounnd awhile.

I have never heard of what "penny whimsy" says about it but personally I wouldn't stick anything in any of my private places for any reason

You'd be impressed at the great toning one gets from a few days of contact, especially during the hot summer months.

Oh my, this is going south fast. I still like that 1857 Large Cent no matter where it has traveled.

Gentlemen, please.

Definitely recolored, and looking like it's going to go for genuinely stupid money - it's at fair value right now.

*makes note to try this method sometime*

It simply has been treated to remove verdigris at some point. Its a beautiful coin. AU50 values around 350, so 280 that its at is reasonable. I dont think its going to go for a ton more than value, but we shall see.
