but these coins doesn't have low mintage to be rare or special.
Plus the value of silver in a $200Xfor is presently 62.69 grams X .67 per gram Cdn silver price = a lowly $42 worth of silver. Judging by all the online questions "how much silver" in XforX, I think the $200 may have sold like hot cakes in the past if buyers did not do the math and instead wrongly believed it was a win-win and the " 99.99% fine silver" meant the coin contained $199.98 worth of silver as well. Future value in 2ndary market - Negative factors - noneligible for MC - low silver content - large mintage, $200 price (many other options) - discontinued, no later versions to pique interest in past issues, forgotten. Positives - appeal factor of design - unique (fv program) full set - face value redemption (but no guarantee by RCM and eroded fv value due to inflation). Purely my opinion, but doesn't seem to be anythiing that would cause them to increase in value on the 2ndary market beyond $200 plus a selling cost premium. I think this would apply to the $100 as well. That's not to say original purchasers/collectors would all dump them if their buying motive was to the definition of " collect". I just think the 2ndary buyer appeal would lean to the negative aspects.

All dealers appear to have a healthy supply. It's possible RCM unloaded their residual at a discount once it was decided to discontinue the series. Others have mentioned exchanging XforX at face with a dealer. Plus, do we really know if RCM melts the redemptions? Redemption does not guarantee elimination. Nothing to prevent RCM from reselling the Mint state ones at a steep discount to dealers willing to buy. Retailers do it routinely...

Apparently there is no dealer discounts on x for x coins as why CP and other dealers sell for 25 or each values at a premium, I doubt the RCM will sell these at discounts if they are trying to reduce their exposure.

Yeah, I don't know either but nothing would really surprise me in this age of corporate financial success being measured one year at a time with no eye whatsoever to the future. The aggressive advertising of XforX, now the secrecy in the way they suddenly discontinued the $200 and $100 XforX while earlier releases were still consistently topping the best seller list...the obscure statement issued in their press release "Management is taking steps to mitigate sales returns in the future".... To RCM it's as if the revenue stream from XforX became much like a drug addiction but without acknowledgement, it's not over yet.

I believe the $100 for $100 scheduled for October is still being released as planned.

@redzapsid I track my subscriptions on the RCM website. The Elk which was to be issued in October shows as cancelled on my order underneath the $100.00 Orca. I believe It will not be issued.

I specifically asked my rep and he said that so far, only the $200 coins have been cancelled. Nowadays, who knows? Things change at the RCM pretty rapidly lately. I was relying on some $x for $x to maintain my status as a mc member but managed to find a few other coins instead. This might be the last year for me though if the program is discontinued

My rep said the same. He said he would re-order if it happened. Right now I have been watching the Shopping Channel with Bromberg. All the new coins are being showcased. The Maze coin is on now. The maple leaf shaped coin has sold extremely well tonight. He started with 1,000 and only 200 left. Lol

Also wanted to say, the cancellation of the 200/200 FV coin was very strategic for the RCM. I bet many relied on that to make MC platinum for the cycle.

Without a doubt, which makes it all the worse that no notice was given whatsoever

I don't think it was 'worse' that no notice was given. The x/4/x series were never intended to give anybody free access to the higher levels of Masters Club. It's case of a few ruining it for all. I'm thinking that they should never have been allowed to count towards m/c status in the first place...they would then still be making them, and you would still be able to turn them in for cash.
The Mint's intention was simply to offer something for everyone - with the hope of inspiring more collectors.

@Dcadon
I so agree with you that FV coins should never have counted towards status. Your whole statement is right on!!
Excellent post:)))))

If I had known that the $200 coins were being canceled, I would likely have bought other non-face value coins. I passed on several, anticipating my budget was stretching thin. My take is that if you provide loop holes, they will get exploited. The RCM allowed reps to sell insane quantities to individuals, Likely with some sort of commission or sales target requirements. If they had stuck to the limit of 3 coins per person, then far fewer would have been cashed in.

Have you bought the Orca or the Cougar 100/100? They are still available and you are allowed 3 of each.
