Kind of missing the point I was making. I agree with you that if anyone has so much fears about loosing valuables, there are many things that should be done. One naturally is to get rid of them. Another is to just not advertise you have them. Yes there are numerous ways to make things safer but then too, back to, to much to worry about.

In my opinion that doesn't make much since. It does not make much difference if you post a picture of your collection, or you tell everyone that you have 12 sets of Mercury dimes and a high grade Lincoln set .. your collection is worth much more than mine, and I know what you have said you have. I just find it funny you say not to post a picture but in other posts you say what you have .. this forum is for sharing your coin collection and knowledge. If all members took your point of view of don't tell anyone what you have .. than why join this site

I have to agree with GR58. I post photos of my stamp and coin collections for fellow collectors to see. I don't tell where or how they are stored, what security I use, or anything to that effect. I'm much more likely to have someone stick a gun in my face wanting my car than have my stamps or coins stolen. If someone breaks into my house in the middle of the night they can have all the stamps and coins they want if I can get my wife and kids safely outside (and I have plenty of firepower on hand to make sure that happens!). They will have tripped an alarm and be captured by video surveillance, but whether or not I get my collectables back is a matter for law enforcement or the insurance company. I certainly won't stand between a burglar and my collectables, even if I have a gun and he has a knife! My job is to protect my family, with my life if necessary, and there are no stamps or coins that will distract me from that mission.

Larsdog...you need to shore up that bottom shelf.

Yes, I know that shelf is sagging. It is a project for this winter.

52Raymo, my thoughts exactly! Talk about "Heavy Metal"!

Not "Heavy Metal". "Heavy Paper". That's my stamp collection. My coin collection is on the top shelf.

But seriously, that's your critique? I can get THAT kind of critique from my wife EVERY day. Do you think I come here for more of the same?

OK smartypantses (is that even a plural?!?) you will be happy to learn that I recently bought the Proof Sets from 1968 to 1998. I already have the Mint sets from 1965 to present and the Proof sets from 1999 to present. When I get the '68 to '98 Proofs that show bow the top shelf a bit more. Happy now?!?

I well see your point of view. AND note how you have mentioned some of my collection. Obviously some individuals keep track of what others say or show. Others even attempt to find where they live, what else they have, etc. Most here though do it all in fun and don't worry about what others have, do, or where they keep everything. Not sure why anyone would keep track of my collection. Guess it'a just for fun, maybe.

Interesting response.

I read a lot of post on here, I have a good memory as I am sure others do, I do get a lot of comments on how much I remember. And not just of your post.

But yes .. by reading the post here .. I know you are in the Chicago area .. or near there. And you like going to coin shows .. sometimes a couple a month. You like Whitman albums and the Red Book. When you were young, at a local coin shop you saw a bowl that had several 1916 D dimes, seems like it was 10 or 12, and you bought them all.

I could go on, but you get the point. So when you come on to a post saying do not post pictures of your collection, I find it ironic.

I know you are older and not of good health, but, where I am not as old as you .. I am older and not good health either.

I am no way meaning to pick on you, what I am saying , everyone has a different opinion. I would not in no way tell you that you should post pictures of your collection .. everyone has to do what they think is best or okay for themselves.

Before you add those sets, you might want to shore up that shelf too! :-)

OK, I've had it with the abuse. I already had on my list of winter projects to fix those shelves, but apparently that's not good enough. Happy now?!?
