I believe that silver would be the better choice because the historical ratio of gold to silver is 16 to 1. I believe silver will return to this historic rate. At this time, silver is undervalued. I buy my bullion at http://www.cherishedgold.com and have received great service from them. Thank you for the post.

Gold is my prefer metal for the time being, with five thousands I would pick up as many 1/10 oz AGE as possible.

First post and a ebay store as the best place. Ok just thought it was weird for a first post. Gold or Silver really is too vague of a question. What are you looking to do with it? Hold it till heck freezes over or sell it tomorrow for a profit? A stacker would or should have a different answer than some one trying to make a speculation profit. Thus there really is not one correct choice. Just my thoughts. I did pick up a nice buy last night 20 Morgans for $24 each.

to the CCF forum, Margie! Quote: Gold is my prefer metal for the time being, with five thousands I would pick up as many 1/10 oz AGE as possible. I can understand someone having a favorite PM, Mac, but why would you choose the high-premium 1/10th oz. coins over the lower premium 1/2 and 1 oz. coins? Just curious.

I questioned that, as well, Ed. Came to the conclusion that he wanted gold coins that could be purchased for lower cost goods and services in a crisis but still keep the weight down compared the same dollar figure in silver bullion. Not a half bad idea, really. Maybe the only reason I'd consider fractional gold in such a weight.

Ed_B,
I think is easier to sell to the individuals in the long run and the premium get pass along to the buyer. I noted that a lot of average new comers/investors/speculators aren't willing or afford to paid for the more costly .5 or 1 oz gold, rather built up on a comfort level.
And if there's a SHTF situation if it ever comes to that, these fractional gold is easier to barter and transport, just my opinion.

Those 1/10th coins do let you make "change" in troubled times. Bartering with only 1 ounce gold could be difficult for those smaller essential purchases. I'd definitely keep a few fractionals in my "go" bag.

I am totally envious of American gun rights. Here it's all about making "peace officers" look like saints while marginalizing the struggling youth. (No offense to any law enforcement.) We have ZERO power when it comes to.... okay, no talk of politics. I'll hold my fingertips on this one. Urban Canada is becoming unsafe, let's just put it that way - that coupled with the majority of our urban centers positioned right at the American border - you can tally up the consequences.
On my original post I wanted to state the importance of 1/10ozt Au for the /exact/ reasons stated by everybody else. One ounce of gold is about the price of a jalopy, while one ounce of silver would be used for feeding the gas tank. Which one would be used daily? The silver, obviously, but you would probably get insane deals if you presented small gold over big silver. Would somebody take your 50ozt Ag brick for a daily purchase? It's hard to say. That kind of size silver is for investment, in my opinion. I think that more people would take gold over silver because of its perceived higher value. You never hear about Ancient Egyptians and their silver. But the word silver is the same for money in many languages. I think you need both to give people the option and to make change.

At current prices, silver hands down is the better buy in my view. The current gold:silver price ratio is 58:1 with the average since deregualtion in the early 1970's being about 50:1.
That's a buy signal for silver and a hold signal for gold.

Im envious over the american gun laws too. in a shtf case, we honest canadians are screwed. the only people that have the guns here, other than the poilce, are the hunters and the WRONG dangerous people. I wish we could all own as well.

Talking to no one in particular...
You know, my hunting days are few and far between now but I've grown to really enjoy sporting clays. Certainly a more practical pastime for a maturing suburbanite like myself. Plenty of opportunities to practice practical shooting, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, and of course safe home storage.
I'd not be surprised to learn that many of my fellow "sporting clays" friends were stackers, too. Not that we'd ever talk about it. It is a small world after all.
