I was woundering if I went into my woods near my home with a shovel and just kept on digging and digging what metal ore would I most likely find? How far deep would I have to dig before I found something to sell for more monies.

Thank you

Unless you have a gold or silver mine in your backyard, or live downstream from one, you're probably only going to find night crawlers. Did you just finish watching the Beverly Hillbillies when you thought of asking this?

If you're on the east coast of North America, there's not much down there you're likely to find. If you make it down 5,000 km before your shovel melts, you'll hit the nickel-iron core of the planet.

But if you're interested in the mineralogical potential of your local woodland, you're probably better off asking the US Geological Survey.

Minerals are not evenly distributed around the world so what you'd find by digging depends entirely where you are. You can find out more information on your local geology by contacting the USGS.gov web site. You might also read up on the subject of prospecting to learn how exactly metals like gold and silver are found. Next on your reading list might be real property ownership and mineral rights. These are all fascinating subjects that you might want to read about before picking up your shovel.

greenprint...

I don't care how you re-word any of your topics or posts...you are not going to find a way of making money on this forum unless you want to buy/sell precious metals. And even then, I cannot guarantee you will make a profit.

Stop asking us how to make money and figure it out yourself.

That is all.

Greenprint,

Dont let all these other posters fool you into thinking that there is no metal to be found. You have the right idea and will become rich with a little time and some effort, I suggest a 20x20 area once you dig down to a depth of about 50-100 feet then you will find that precious gold and silver and a small amount of Platnium. Also keep any rocks you may find some quartz contains gold, you may even find a diamond or two. I know a few people who have done the same thing. They just picked a spot and started digging. One hit oil and is a multi millionaire the other found over 400oz of gold not a millionaire but a nice chunk of money.

I hope you start digging and please keep us all updated with pictures of your hole and the many treasures you are about to find. Also keep me in mind when you strick it RICH

I'm sure he appreciates the glint of hope, but you are just getting his hopes up and now the CCF will face another 100 of his useless posts about getting rich quick or coin hunting scams.

It is probably a 1 in a billion chance he could find anything of any real value in his back yard, he has a better chance of hitting a sewage pipe or water line. You didn't even advise him to call the city before he starts digging ( you could get in aaaallooooott of trouble ).

Also, it would cost him more money to maintain a safe work environment within said hole than he would be extracting in finds.

Honostly greenprint, if you want to find anything of any value by digging...get yourself a metal detector and start going to every park/school yard that you know of.

I still stand by my post there is 100% chance he will strike it rich!! It just takes the time and effort. It may take a year to get down to the depth of pay dirt but eventually he will reach that gold mine and never have to work again.

Greenprint good luck on your dig update us in a year or two when you hit that pay dirt. Until then keep on digging :)

swrbxxx:

Get a metal detector. Best time to go is at night. One of my best hauls ever was at some abandoned buildings in the middle of town. One used to be a gold and silver store. Busted out the windows and just started going around the edges of the rooms, around doors and stuff. I couldn't believe it but my metal detector just started going off. Not the bad sounds like iron nails give you, but good chimes like silver.

Here is the kicker, they left all their stuff behind when they abandoned the building. It was amazing! I just started putting anything in my bags that went off when I ran the metal detector over it.

Only bad thing is that the police gave me some trouble because they get all uppity about everything and try to keep the little man down. They hate people that use metal detectors, they hate them more than poor people.

Stick it to the man! They are always going on and on about property rights and tresspassing laws. That is way I go out at night and wear all black. Sometimes I paint my face so they don't see me. Gloves are a must.

I have a little Indian blood in me so I always talk about "The White Man" when people who think they are in a position of authority try to confront me. My people don't like it when... (fill in what ever).

Let the dumb people do the digging, refining and minting. You just get the metal detector and get it after they are done with it.

Some of my buddies and I have a metal detecting club. We get around and hash ideas out on where to go. Last time we came up with a pretty good list: Banks, museums, historical societies, mines, refineries, coin stores, pawn shops, gun stores, Cabella's, police stations (they have lots of guns and "evidence" for you metal detector to find), etc.

I don't want to give away to many good areas. These places will make you rich though. Way easier than going to the park.

METAL DETECTING is where the money is at BRO! If I got the change to tell my old self anything, anything at all, I would tell my younger self to get a metal detector. I wouldn't even bother going to college. Waste of money, just stay in school until you're 18, then drop out and hit the ground with detector as soon as possible. The years I lost sitting in the class rooms listening to wind bags do the whippy cushon.

Now I only work two or three times a month for a few hours. Beats the daily grind and the rush hour traffic. I don't even have to do the work, just get out for the exercise and the thrill of the hunt. I am living the life now and the doctor says I am less stressed than ever.

One time I was detecting in this church, my detector went off over a plate like nothing else. These people have just left MONEY, cold hard cash MONEY in there. I got it before some other metal detectorist could get it. You have to act quick, but don't be obvious about it. Other metal detectorists will try to move in on your territory. Plus they wear disguises. Think about it. If they dress up as a pastor, or a plumber, or a police man no body watches those people. They they swoop in and try to get your prize. Watch out for other detectorists, they are sneaky and EVERYWHERE. There are not millions of them but some of them are good and they know another detectorist when they see them so they follow them and try to get in on your turff. You have to know these things.

Thanks amida! Now the secret is out and everyone will be digging these holes!

Greenprint if you do find any flubber what so ever consider yourself a billionaire! Those types come down in the depths of 250 feet but worth the dig

Can I join this metal detector club you speak about, I can supply the group with bullet proof vests for those hunts where "the man" may be trying to take you down

greenprint, Don't listen to swrbxxx.
You have to use your bare hands and not a shovel as the shovel will damage the surface of the Unobtainium crystals.
Also these must be dug only at night during a thunderstorm as the charged particles in the air along with the humidity will make these "Invisible to the naked eye in daylight" crystals glow

Don't listen to these people greenprint. Everyone knows that the riches of the deep are protected by and if you dig too deep you'll unleash that will wreak havoc on Earth. If this happens, you'll need to make a and give it to the so they . Once they are dead, you can and collect your precious metals.

Let us all know where you'll be digging this hole so we can

Greenprint, if you want to start digging a hole by all means go for it. Before you do anything, watch one season of Gold Rush. They dig a very big hole. Best of luck.
