Hi enworb, I did not know (and yes there is soooo much I do not know) that 1981 was hard to find - do you know why? Is it the standard coat of arms?

I think there was only one 50c's produced in 1981, it is for the wedding of Diana and prince Charles of wales. Funny I remembered a college professor I used to know called Charles prince of ears. :)

I checked my coins and there is both the "big ears" and normal for 50¢ 1981. I am happy to sent you a low grade as that is all I have of the standard 1981's.

The 81 chuck and di 50c doesn't have a particularly small mintage but has been hoarded quite a lot, this makes is harder to find in circulation. Most that turn up are in better than average condition. It doesn't take a huge effort to noodle one but might take a while of waiting to get one in change. The coat of arms are not hard to find at all.

The 1973, 1991 and 1993 are probably the scarcest 50c to find in circulation. All have low mintage (1993 less than 1 million).

1985 50¢ is hardest to find.
Official mintages says more issued than 1993 but it is much less common.

enworb,
Did you mean 73, or 85?
The 73 is listed on RAM website as 4,000,000 while 85 is listed as 1,000,000.

In years of looking the only 50c I haven't found in the wild is the 1993 - even managed to come up with a 1985.

I agree with Jeff, 85 is hardest to find. The reasons why have been discussed elsewhere on the forum, but include that the design changed, and then there were no 50c made in 86 and 87.

I did mean 1973. What I meant to say was of those molydeii has they are the hardest. I agree 1985 is by far the hardest to find. I've found 3-4 1993 per 1985.
