So I came across this dateless buffalo in a box of nickels I purchased back in June. I recently got around to restoring some dateless specimens and this one caught my eye. Does anybody else see an 18/17? I often let my eyes deceive me, so I figured I'd show the community and get some feedback! Any feedback is appreciated!

I'm not seein' it. On an actual 1918/7 the holes in the 8 are conspicuously not vertical.

That's what I thought... I felt like the top of the 8 looked flat, and who knows, maybe it was damaged years ago before it became smooth. Oooh coins...

Yes, this one is not a 1918/7-D. In lower grades where the die crack on the cheek can not be seem, the best diagnostic is the positions of the inside loops of the "8".

In a genuine 1918/7-D the upper loop appears shifted to the left and the lower loop shifted to the right. In a normal 1918-D the loops will appear to be vertically stacked.

excellent picture danster. thanks. I have 3 date-restored 1918's, one is a D and I doubt it is the 1918/7, but at least I can check.
