I'm surprised there are not more "MARS" reverses entered. I thought when Martin gave the subject matter, we would have everyone participating.

I think people just don't have Mars reverses. I didn't have one except for the Very very very old Tarsus Stater. I am actually surprised seeing as most people are Roman Collectors and the Romans seem to have a lot of "Mars" coins.

I have mostly Roman coins, but I only had about a half dozen or so with a Mars reverse. Before this smackdown, had anyone asked, I would have told them I had a lot of Mars reverses.

Constantine the Great, 307-337, the first Christian emperor, nevertheless used images of Mars early in his reign. -- Warren

If you're talking about the next SMACKDOWN event, then that seems a bit "specific" (kinda like this last one) ... to get the ancient-masses, I was hoping for something a bit more Paint-by-numbers, like:

=>
a) coins with mammals on 'em,
b) Tetradrachms (Greek and/or Roman),
c) coins between 600 BC and 200 BC,
d) coins between 100 AD and 200 AD,

=> I admit that those may be fairly broad categories, but at least you'll get a barrage of entries to sift-through!! ... right?

Ummmm .... or were you merely looking for a thread-topic?

NOTE => I am currently still on vacation ... plus, it is raining/pouring outside at the moment, and my wife has already gone back to work ...

=> so I am kinda bored and sitting here on the CCF, basically answering anybody that will talk me ... by Monday, sadly I'll be back to the grind (after 4.5 weeks off!!) ... arrrgghhh, it went-by so bloody quickly!

anyway => thanks for tolerating my 100% attention ... I have O.C.D. and I'm lovin' it!!

All good ideas I guess Steve. I was thinking another thread for discussion. It would be specific a topic. Tetradrachms would be too broad IMO , all tets arnt created equal, I was thinking in regards to next smackdown maybe 1st century BC or 1st century AD etc etc

Hey, I'm bored too. Nothing to do.

That's what I tried to do when I was running the SMACKDOWN is try to find a subject that is open enough to allow most people to enter.

Mars doesn't seem to be too rare even though I don't have one yet. On the other hand, if they had said Jupiter or a few other gods, I have them. And a very uncommon Saturn as well.

I don't have any tets, so that contest would be out for me. I have no ancient Greek coins yet.
