I purchased this before my holiday break. This is a "Hawaiianized" silver eagle. It's listed in the Krause Publication catalog as X# MB72. An interesting accompanying artifact is a letter of provenance from the Royal Hawaiian Mint that mentions that only 20 specimens were counterstamped (last line in the letter). https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...-duid-360678

DrDarryl ... I see that an ebay seller is offering this counterstamp on an Eagle, a Morgan and a Peace dollar for $275 or best offer. As a collector of 19th century merchant counterstamps, these high prices sought amaze me. The Royal Hawaiian Mint products, including many well struck medals, reminds me of the Franklin Mint pieces that typically lose much value when offered on the secondary market. The counterstamps have relatively low relief, so one is basically buying into the belief that it's a limited edition. Were the dies destroyed after the coins were stamped? I saw no mention of that.

Quote: ... I see that an ebay seller is offering this counterstamp on an Eagle, a Morgan and a Peace dollar for $275 or best offer... The seller/dealer is flipping for profit. Catalog price is listed as $70 for the Morgan. https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...-duid-360679I pointed out the resale by her during the first week of 2016 (the seller posted a picture of the certificate with her name on it). The only thing going for these Aloha Money counterstamp coins is that they are listed in Krause Publication. The Peace and Eisenhower are not currently listed by KP and are newly known. However, the Eisenhower is listed in the now removed Royal Hawaiian Mint database with a mintage of 275. Some of the other Royal Hawaiian Mint counterstamp are date specific and is used to designate First Day of issue. Here is my set of Hawaiianized U.S. Dollars. As for your Franklin Mint reference. The Medcalf and Russell book integrated several Hawaii related Franklin Mint issues into their book Hawaiian Money Standard Catalog "Second Edition". This may seem insignificant, but again once a coin, medal or ingot is catalog for a specific niche there will be collectors looking for these pieces. By the way, I studied the Franklin Mint and Hawaii connection and wrote a book that catalogs all known Franklin Mint items relating to Hawaii. https://www.createspace.com/5281076There is also a new form of collecting by some of the Hawaii specialist. The English terns is called "step" collecting. Interesting concept and can apply to several non-Hawaiian issues. http://thehawaiiananumismatist.com/...-collecting/

Just found out about this thread. Thought I'd add my profile picture. Can't find the original image at the moment but if I do I will fix it later on.

I don't got no camera with me now, so I can't attach a picture currently, but I got one with Kennedy smiling at Lincoln on a 1968 cent. If that isn't weird... I got it totally for free in the mail, from someone I've never talked to, never bought from, & never heard of. It still wonders me where it came from.

Asked for a $25 box of pennies at my local Chase so the teller put together 50 rolls of customer wrapped pennies, about half of them were rolled in worn out pale red rolls while the other half were rolled in brand new crisp red ones. Inside the newly wrapped rolls I found 49 of 50 1976 counter-stamped state pennies in AU/BU condition! A few of the rolls came with 10 of them while the others only held 1 to 3. Really bummed I couldn't find that last one, clearly someone dumped their set that they paid a premium for, I'm just hoping I didn't miss it or that it was in another roll I didn't ask for. Still a great find even though it's not really considered a collectible they are in great condition.
