One more. This time a LB counterstamp on an 1861 halfpenny.

Looks like another maverick .... simply used as a tag, holed for suspension/attachment.
The "UK" witnessed many, early 1800's countermarked or counterstamped (terms mostly used synonymously by us on this side of the Atlantic) coins, marked by merchants. There were many occupations, like cutlers, liquor dealers, metal smiths, etc. Often, there's a name, occupation and/or street and town all stamped on the coin. These have some value to them. Random initials have little or no value, except to perhaps an owner whose initials they are.
Good luck with your collecting pursuits, mate.

@spruett001 .... Never seen the like of this one before. Maybe I should start stamping Lincoln Cents with "1860" to commemorate Abe's election?

Very nice, especially since you still have the original holder!

A couple of quarters I recently took pictures of - both found in pocket change.

My 6th state counterstamped coin! Mississippi! Just 44 to go! The others are from the late 1970s, so I am surprised to see one from 2002.

@Dorado Is that a tiny "1" double stamped there? It's like someone had an idea and after messing the first number up, threw it aside and picked up another cent for a second go. Quote: Just 44 to go! Keep searching, aristarchus!

This was brought home by my husband yesterday. I think it is a Carter, but would love some insight! 1981 Lincoln Penny

to the CCF, Panda7113 Akin to the state counterstamps, seen above, these modern pieces are what's generally called "novelty coins." Like most exonumia, these can be fun to find and collect, but they are of little value at present. Perhaps, a hundred years or so in the future, they'll be worth a few bucks? If you're inclined to look through your change and seeking to strike it rich, try and find a 1969-S doubled die cent. A California kid found one a year or two ago, afterwards selling it for twenty-five grand! Happy hunting!!
