For our wedding this past year, a friend counter stamped this Massachusetts State Quarter with our names on either side. It is in the event of a debate or disagreement where we are at a stand still the coin can be flipped to decide the victor. A very thoughtful, personalized gift.

Quote: Just wanted to thank you for sharing those fantastic specimens. Thanks, Chafemasterj. My pleasure. While these Masonic counterstamps will forever remain mavericks, they're telling of the times, mid-late 1800's. America was full of creative machinists and inventors, eager to patent some device or another. They often worked in tandem, hoping to strike it rich in the process. Sometimes, a Masonic symbol is accompanied by a name and attributable as such. Here's one such piece, a logo stamp, on a quarter ... Here are my database notes (pardon the cap letters): THE DAVISTOWN MUSEUM HAS A PLANE MADE BY CHARLES A. SPEAR THAT ALSO HAS A MASONIC SYMBOL THEREON (080704T1 Razee plane). THESE RAZEE PLANES WERE USED BY SHIPBUILDERS. THIS MAY WELL BE CHARLES ADRIAN SPEAR WHO MARRIED HARRIET MURDOCK IN HALLOWELL, MAINE IN 1856. BORN 1831, HE WAS FROM GARDINER AND DIED IN 1886 IN SOMMERVILLE, MASS. ORIGINALLY A PLANE/TOOL MAKER, HE LASTLY APPEARS IN THE 1881 SOMMERVILLE DIRECTORY AS A GAS FITTER.

Quote: .while these will remain mavericks. Sorry if I paraphrased. What does it mean if it is a maverick?
