Aliascrue. Nice counter stamp. That one was the first counter stamp I received as a gift. It started my counter stamp collecting journey. Now I'm about 800 examples later.

I must have posted something about this before, but I'll add it to this thread. Anybody know anything about this stamp?

That 1987 penny with the state on it is nice. Usually when you see those they're from the 70s.

Aha! I figured out what the Peace dollar counterstamp is. My stepdad was a member of AA, which uses the triangle and circle as a symbol for recovery (all sorts of charms and challenge coins on Amazon). The XL is a Roman numeral for 40, and Dad did reach his 40 year's sobriety anniversary (I'm pretty sure he even hit his 50 years before he passed). I bet his club stamped this coin for him. That explains why this particular coin was not in my grandpa's stash—I found it in my mom's jewelry box.

In honor of Thanksgiving, here is a turkey counterstamp from numismatist Mel Wacks. It was the second of many counterstamps designed by Mr. Wacks. It was part of a First Day Cover, cancelled in Turkey Texas in 1976. According to sales records, 200 of the FDCs were sold. The counterstamp is on a proof 1962 Franklin half dollar. To learn more about The Counterstamped Coins of Mel Wacks, check out the pdf file at this link: http://www.tokenandmedal.org/Journa...el_Wacks.pdf

Interesting (and curious) choice of coin for that date.

Just saw this listing for a counterstamped 1899-O Morgan on ebay this morning. "Extra" on reverse. Seems like when I read through this entire thread a while back (yes, all of it!) someone had posted a similar one. I am in no way affiliated with this seller or auction. They are asking $80 but accepting offers. Auction title is "THE EXTRA DOLLAR ~ COUNTERSTAMPED 1899-O $1 SILVER Morgan dollar"
