Quote:Just saw this listing for a counterstamped 1899-O Morgan on ebay this morning. "Extra" on reverse. Seems like when I read through this entire thread a while back (yes, all of it!) someone had posted a similar one. I am in no way affiliated with this seller or auction. They are asking $80 but accepting offers. Auction title is "THE EXTRA DOLLAR ~ COUNTERSTAMPED 1899-O $1 SILVER Morgan dollar" Very interesting! Any takers?

It's still there. My counterstamp / countermark collection is limited to a few Morelos SUDs, and I'm not really in the acquisition mode at the moment.Plus, I have no conception of the valuation of counterstamped Morgans.

@CarrsCoins: A very interesting piece! I thought "bottle cap" the second I saw it! BTW: I enjoyed reading your original post about the piece! Thanks for the link.

thanks guys. I like that one too. its fun and I love the history. it gets some really mixed reactions when I show it to people. some people love the stamp and the history and others are appalled that someone would wreck up a chain cent like that. it gives a lot of insight into what different people value in a coin.

I found one in pocket change in Maine. It has onlly been swished about in some warm water to clean the pitcher out. The ball needs a tooth pick. Prod?

It's a good thing that 1972 cent doesn't appear to be any of the DDOs.
