Removing Tape Residue From A 2004 Loonie

CanadianCollector Valued Member Canada 306 Posts	Posted 08/16/2012 02:34 am I have a 2004 loonie with the olympic logo on it. The coin is in good shape and it is not too tarnished. It does have some tape residue on the obverse side of it though. Would acetone remove this without reacting with the bronze plating on it? Is there a better way to remove residue? Try as I could, I could not convince her to stop using tape. I always used acetone. I would caution you not to leave the tape on too long because some of both son's coins still have pronounced "lines" on the obverse from the tape. Get the tape off as soon as possible. CanadianCollector Valued Member Canada 306 Posts	Posted 08/22/2012 2:56 pm I have good news and bad news Good news - The acetone removed all of the residue and did not do any harm to the rest of the coin. Bad news - While the residue was on the coin it caused it to tarnish in some spots and the coin also has a stripe from where the tape was. (only on the obverse, the reverse is still perfect) At least it still looks way better than a coin that has circulated for 8 years. Report this Post to the Staff
