Not to divert the thread, but the 1973 silver Mountie dollars from the mint came in a case that includes PVC (in the red part of the case). The black ring that holds the dollar in the case will reduce the PVC damage versus the disaster that will occur in the 1973 double dollar sets. But I would strongly recommend that 1973 Mountie dollars be stored for the long term outside their original case. To illustarte, here is my not badly toned 1973 Mountie dollar reverse...... and the attractive (NOT!) green obverse that spent nearly 40 years in contact with the PVC. Note that this coin has already had much acetone soaking already. The cent from the set was black and green. Sorry.....back to the dollars.

1974 business strike nickel dollar, PCGS MS-66 1974 business strike nickel dollar, double Yoke (VCR #2), PCGS MS-65. I will spare the masses here from showing all the 19 (yes there are two more coming out in the new 2012 Charlton) varieties, unless you know what you are looking for, they will all look the same from afar. I have most of them in MS-64 or better.

The double yolks seem to all trend the same, but it seems that the VCR #2 is much more common than the other two major varieties.
19 varieties?! Wow. Do they classify as variants of the main three, or are they all distinct?

Quote: 19 varieties?! Wow. Do they classify as variants of the main three, or are they all distinct? This is why I'm not a varieties collector, well... that's not entirely true. (you kind of have to be a varieties collector to collect Canadian coins) But still. There are so many varieties it drives me crazy! Just when you think you have finished a set, someone with no life discovers a new one. (sorry about the overly pessimistic post) Anywho I like the 74 dollars, Winnipeg is a really cool city, so I've always liked them in that regard.

Neat to see an error on a specimen. I wouldn't have expected it to get past QA. Cool clip!
