You are correct. (don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia)

There were 11 sports at the Edmonton games.

Athletics
Badminton
Bowls
Boxing
Cycling
Diving
Gymnastics
Shooting
Swimming
Weightlifting
Wrestling

Oddly, there are only 10 depicted on the coin. I'm guessing that diving and swimming were combined on the coin though officially, they are separate events.

In 1979, the design elements changed in the nickel dollar. Given that this was a large solid nickel planchet, weighing almost 16 grams, the varieties we see from 1976, 1977 and 1978 probably came from rapid Die Deterioration. This new design, has flatter devices (i.e., elements of the die were not as deep) and shallower rims. Detail was added to the birchbark of the canoe. Composition remains unchanged, but for some reason, with exception of the 1982 Constitution and Cartier dollars, it is so much harder to find nice coins from 1979-1986. Perhaps the rims being less elevation allowed for more bag marks and contact marks? This year, 1979, is probably the toughest of them all, and 2nd toughest of the entire series, after 1972.

This is my best example, ICCS MS-65, now PCGS MS-65 and is the top coin in both companies.

Good thing you expanded this thread to include nickel dollars and loon dollars, otherwise, we would be hearing nothing but the crickets... I am surprised we have not seen more toned silver dollars from the older double dollar prestige sets...

All my silver dollars only have slight gold tones around the edge. My 1984 has some blue toning
But it's only the edge. Nothing massive.

I have some 1980s, including errors, but I was hoping to see some silver specimen gems or other nickel dollars... I can look at my own coins anytime...

this is one of my business strikes and the silver one out of my set. I have a few more business ones, proof like, and the nickel one out of the double dollar set as well.

I like those dollars!
One thing I like about the canadian silver dollars is the evolution of coin designs. The RCM was not afraid to use big, bold, and modern, (at least then), fonts.(of which this 1980 silver dollar is a beautiful example.)

My silver 1980 bear photo didn't turn out so I skipped it. Here is a proof 1981 though.
