Got my 2003 today. It is absolutely stunning. Very pleased even with the ridiculous premium.

I like what people are saying about the Britannia coins I like them and I'm about three sort of a set of bullion coins and I would need the 1997 proof for a full set although there was only 4,173 of those issued. The Royal Mint (UK) also issued a 2011 £1 half ounce coin with a issue limit of 50,000 so I have one of those in my collection as well. I saw the Britannia set that was mentioned on this thread and if I remember right they were £1 half ounce coins. Did you know that there are also 1/10th. ounce 20p proof Britannia coins for the years 1997, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2010 which although small are really nice in a box with certificate also low mintage 2001 mintage 826 the rest are in the region of two to three thousand coins. I've also read on the thread that people have to pay more for the lower issues I live in the UK and recently saw a tray of assorted £2 Britannia's in a tray all priced at £25 each so I'm wondering what sort of prices are being asked for them around where you are. When I first started buying them in 2008 I was paying about £15 for them and now as I say they sell locally at £25 which I think will be about right for a shop dealing in silver bullion they do not seem to be bothered about the low mintage of an individual coin. 25 pounds is cheaper than I can usually pick them up for here. Closer to 30 - 35 pounds each.

Bought 2 x 2012 bullion £2 1oz silver Britannias myself at the beginning of August.
They were £26.40 each which was a good price. Bought 1 x 1998 (bsides others) for less than £10 in 1998, it's now fetching over £35!!
Wish I'd have bought more, the price of silver is going through the roof at the moment and the dealer I bought from (Chard) who is usually very good with selling price, has been steadily increasing their price and today each 2012 1oz coin is over £30. What's happening with silver?

Apparently the 2001 is the hardest to get with a mintage of under 45K. So if you run across one at a good price you might want to snatch it up. 1999 is also very cool looking. I have 3 - 2011s on order. Anxious to see what they look like in person.

A few weeks ago, I went to Long Beach Convention coin show and saw a dealer selling the 2012 1oz for $40/ea, which I thought was a good deal vs online where the price is cheaper but must add tax and shipping..... I was tight on cash so only bought one, now thinking about it, I should have bought a few.

Love the Brits. For those who like the Canadian wildlife at 1m mintages, these should be a no-brainer. As far as high premiums, consider they are changing types, with PL or RP appearances, then compare to what you'd pay for an ASE proof or RP, with much higher mintages, with non-changing designs. Hopefully the end of the 100k limit won't turn them into million+ pieces. |

All right, I've never really heard of these before, but this thread has gotten me intrigued and now I'm thinking I might have to get some the next time I'm looking to make a bullion purchase. In particular, I just checked out the 2012 design and think it looks amazing. I'm really not too crazy about the 2011 design, however. In fact, I'd almost be willing to call it downright ugly. Yeah, no accounting for personal tastes, I know. But still, I have to admit it seems strange that the 2010 Britannias (another stunning design) are currently selling on APMEX with a significant premium ($79.99 for a 1-ounce coin) whereas the 2011 Britannias are currently selling at about the same cost as the 2012 ones. Maybe there's some other reason having to do with mintage figures or something, but until I hear otherwise I'm just going to go on believing that the 2011 versions are so ugly that nobody wants them...  |

Barry look at some of the early designs too. For what it is worth most coins look better in person. Strangely, the 2010 is not one of my favs but I really appreciate them all.

Any idea why the 2010 Britannias would be "worth" so much more than the 2011 ones? Or is it just that APMEX doesn't have as many in stock? |

No clue although older ones are even more expensive. Some are sub 50,000 mintages. 2001 is really high on AMPEX. 2003 is many people's favorite. You should be able to get a 2010 for around $65 on ebay. Remember these are .952 silver but going to .999 in the next release according to Coin World. |

BarryG, I've got to agree that the 2011 design is my least favorite of the Britannias, even to agreeing that its kinda ugly. 2003 is my fav, then the standing with trident and the chariot ones.
