Ok I picked this up for $135, but I can return it.. From what I can tell it has been cleaned, I'd put it at VF+, so with the cleaning I'll bring it down to a VF. Now whats interesting is that I believe this was made with a cracked die. Check out the photos below and tell me what you think. These are raised areas, it is not a scratch. You can feel it if you run over it with your fingernail. On a 10x loop its clear this is a ridge, not a valley.

Based on what I paid, grade, cleaning, possible die crack.. do I return it? Sell it? or grade it?

What I paid I think is fair for its condition, numismaster says $95 for VF and $260 for XF, as a point of reference. There are hairlines in the same direction, hence why I feel its been cleaned, plus it just doesn't look right for its age.

It's nice to see a crown with a cracked die.

Presumably it was a die near the end of its life with the possibility that some parts of the design are less well defined - for example, the medal on her shoulder.

I think I would grade this as VF/GVF, so possibly worth a bit less than the price you paid.

Reasonably pleasing coin. The price is OK. The die crack adds a little interest. The hairlines do not really show up all that well in the pictures shown here. I guess the hairline are the reason for your lessened enthusiasm for this coin.

Depends on your heart and interests. It is certainly NOT a dissapointing coin.
I am into World coins, and my motivation would be to keep it.

If your heart is not in it, there would be some changeover costs to do so. I do NOT think they would be justified.

I would agree with the grade VF / gVF.

Yes the hairlines are the reason... I don't mind toning, but the hairlines just tell me that someone has taken away what I want. The seller had it listed as AU, but I know better than that. I think I can find a better coin for around the same price.. I'm going to send it back..
