Saw this listing and the guy selling it and me have no idea of this variety have researched from the books that I have and also the Internet no luck any help would be appreciated.

I have a little book which is quite good with varieties (I dug it out after that thread where my spinks book failed to give enough information on high and low tides)

It lists 5 varieties for 1861 penny (36,449,280 minted)

Signature both sides...
Signed reverse only...
Signed obverse only...
No signatures...
Bronzed Proof...

It doesn't explain fully these varieties though the values don't seem vastely different (Just the bronzed one is way more) and no mention of this small 8.

It is "Collectors coins of Great Britain" 1988, Richards Pocket reference and price guide.

Very out of date and not a big book (it just goes back to mid 1700's) but it does list mitage figures and illustrates things like mint marks and varieties.
